Enjoyed several evenings at the Royal Oak pub when we stayed in the village. Warm welcome from the landlord. Hearty pub fare. Dog and family friendly. Popular place to eat and drink and we can see why. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Popular village pub

Great pub with an excellent choice of real ale,cider and the usual drinks. Food was excellent well presented and very affordable. The landlord knows how to look after you and his real ale making sure you have a clean glass each time you ordered. Will definitely visit again

Great pub with good food

Very clean hotel, ample parking space.
Steve was very helpful and polite. Good breakfast and evening meal that was at a very reasonable price! 
Half an hour from Builth Wells which was ideal for the RWAS.
If we are ever in the area on a Sunday we will pop in for a carvery!

Royal Welsh hotel for a few nights

Excellent pub with a fantastic view over the Towy valley. Great beer and pub food- yum! Steve the landlord was very frienfly and helpful. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Who could ask for more!

Excellent pub with great views

The landlord was friendly and accommodating in every way. The food is home cooked and arrived in good time. I had read previous negative reviews but saw nothing of this, it was very positive. Thank you- it was so nice we went back the next night 👍

Family meal and drinks

My husband, and I visited in Aug 22. 

We both had a lovely meal, the cottage pie was very much home cooked and very tasty. 
The landlord took the time to talk with us about our trip and his pub and the journey through Covid and I take my hat off to them for getting through the other side of Covid after lots of hard work and determination.

Our cockerpoo was offered water too, very welcoming.

Pls visit if you are in the area, you won’t be disappointed.

Lovely meal

Just had a great four night stay at the Royal Oak. Room clean and comfortable with all we needed. Breakfast was freshly cooked and all you wanted. We ate every evening at the pub and were perfectly happy with all our meals. The steak pie is especially worth a mention, with large chunks of tender beef. As with most hostelries at the moment staffing can be a problem but Steve, the landlord, did his best to oblige with anything out of the ordinary. Have to say the young lady waiting on the tables is a gem, always with a smile on her face which you don’t always get these days with the young! Would certainly stay again at the Royal Oak

Lovely room. Great stay

We stayed here late July in room no 3 it wash a lovely room very Quant 
The inn is set in a lovely location surrounded by countryside the only fault we had was the landlord he needs to go back to training school for front of house skills is mannerism is very poor when you are going to tell someone of for making a mistake you should have a quiet word not shout it across a room full of people .
It's a Quant place but we wont be going back.

Unhappy 

Where do i start ,we were staying for 2 nights b&b ,we were told cant book in until 3pm ,it states contactless check in & check out ,not true ,we got there around 2.30 ,we ordered a drink that we had to go inside to the bar to order ,& pay for ,others out side had to do this as well ,some had ordered food ,& that was brought out by a staff member with no face mask ,every one we saw coming there was not asked for name ,phone no ,address ,most of these customers were from the caravan site just oposite ,that were from different parts of the uk ,(very much a covid risk in not asking for there contact  details )we were informed when we got there that the bar will be closing at 3 pm until 6pm .England was playing Germany ,& my husband who is English wanted to have watched the game with a few pints ,he was told no tv in the bar in anycase ,i asked if they did room service ,so we could have some drinks in our room ,watching the game ,a curt reply no ,was said ,people on the next table to us saluted & said ok captain when he had gone .the outside has lots of tables & no umbrellas bar for one that was in use ,we found one that had a spoke sticking out ,the landlord came out & said im taking this away because its dangerous (which it was to be fair ) i then asked could i have another one ,he said there are none only one they had( it was a very warm day )what only one umbrella for the whole pub ,i said ,he was curt again with me ,& again this other couple ,saluted ,they coudnt belive his attitude ,this stay was going down hill fast ( incase they comment there was a seating area that was covered there were 3 couples sitting & eating under that )2.45 came & landlord came & said we will be closing soon so il show you to your room now ,When we came down at 7pm we sat outside with a drink  we got at the bar (our table was booked for 7.45 )we went in to our table that was infront of the bar ,we were told that i cant take your order for food im to buzy serving others ,when he was ready he called out from behind the bar that hes now ready to take our orders we ordered the mushroom pie ,i havnt got that he replied ,i said this is going from bad to worse ,which he replied (how rude )which i replied hed been rude from the time we got there ,my husband ordered me a wine ,he said he didnt have any wine glasses they were all in use ,the glass he put it in had only just come out of the glass washer ,it was warm & my wine was tepid ,i put my face mask on went to the bar with the wine asked for ice cubes ,because it wasnt cold enough ,he said that it came out of the fridge ,which i replied then it cant have been in for very long ,he went to the kitchen for some ice ,which he carried out with his hands ,(no gloves on ) proceeded to put the ice in my glass with his fingers ,i said to him what with your fingers ,he said iv washed my hands ,he the took the glass threw it away ,gave me a fresh glass of wine ,which was cold ,i said it must have been in the fridge longer than the other one ,i dont know what pill hed taken but he was polite to us when he brought out our meal with no face mask,i thought i cant say anything again ,& upset him .We went to our room around 8.50 as we were told the bar closes at 9pm ,the noise that was coming from the bar (loud talking & laughing ) we couldnt settle down to sleep ,my husband went down ,he spoke to some of the customers that was from the caravan park ,they were just leaving & they told my husband that the locals are allowed to drink after 9pm ,they had asked for another drink ,& was told no (they had been eating & drinking ther all night )doesnt this man realise these people are his bread & butter especially in the summer ,unbelivable (i hope you at the caravan park reads all this )it went quiet around 11.35 .morning came went down for breakfast,was served by the landlord (nice as pie ) no face mask nice breakfast 1 piece of toast no jam ,went up to our room to pack was not going to stay another night did not feel safe with the covid policies they went by ,my husband went down twice to see about the bill could not find anybody about even knocked on the kitchen door ,so we left them a note ,we stayed out most of the day ,& when we got home there was a very curt message saying we had left without paying our bill & if we didnt settle it over the phone then we will incur extra charges ,we had payed full for our b&b ,but still owed for the evenings drinks & food i sent them a message that maybe they could refund me some of my stay & deduct it from what our bill was just send me a message of what we owed ,they did & it was the full ammount,i wasnt going to make a fuss i phoned them & payed the billnin full there was no sorry on there part of what we had to endure when you read reviews of this pub take in mind that most of them were under a different owner these have only been going for 2 yrs above the bar it gives the yrs that the pub won best pub there is nothing saying 2020 which there claiming to have won ,& i dont think there likley too,if your passing please please walk on by

Rude iggnorrant landlord ,dont go there

Having just bought a house in Rhandirmwyn, and being unable to get into it (thanks previous owners) we had to stay at the Royal Oak.  We had a very warm welcome from  'unser hosten' Debs and Steve.  Room clean, tidy, warm and with a very comfortable bed.  Dinner and breakfast were excellent.  Debs and Steve have done a fine job complying with the arcane COVID-19 restrictions imposed by the Welsh Government, and are being rewarded for their efforts by the ban on alcohol sales from Friday 4 December.  We hope this and every other hospitality business in Wales survives this latest attack from Government.  These people deserve our support!
