This was the second time we have stayed here and have now visited three out of the four pubs owned by the group.

We almost postponed as neither of us were in full health but were so glad we didn’t!

We stayed as a couple our dog and we were made to feel very welcome right from the start by each member of the team.

Special thanks must go to Connor, the head chef who went out of his way to look after my wife’s need to avoid certain foods and was a credit to John In his absence.

We are now working out how soon we can stay again as the location, ambience food and service ticked all of our boxes and we can’t ask for more than that!

Just what the Doctor ordered!

John and the team are incredible welcoming, and have you feeling at ease straight away. They take total pride in the Pub/hotel and care about the small details. Rooms are lovely, well priced and food is delicious. Breakfasts are superb and went to bed looking forward to it.

We stayed at 3 different locations on our trip to Somerset. All the Inns were good but the Lord Poulett wins hands down for the right balance of customer service, good food with classic country accomodation, ambiance and welcome. Congratulations to Jon and the team for a memorable stay. We will be back. 

Spot on 

Very much enjoyed my visit.  I loved all the vintage touches which fit into the feel of the building. The staff were very attentive and helpful. I stayed for only one night, but my room was lovely. As for food, I had the gnocchi with wild mushrooms and a cappuccino in the evening and porridge with fresh berries for breakfast. All delicious. While there, take a walk around the town.  

Enjoyed both the room and the food! 

We stayed at the Lord Poulett Arms last weekend. We couldn’t have had a better experience - warm welcome, beautiful rooms and fabulous food. One of our party was celebrating a big birthday (we had not mentioned this during the booking process) and when John and Alex became aware they went the extra mile to ensure that the occasion was marked, even printing a personalised birthday menu! 
The rooms were really lovely, stand alone baths, wonderfully comfy beds, and Bramley products.
The food!  Every dish beautifully prepared and flavoursome, with a great wine list to complement.  And the breakfasts (not sure how we managed to pack a breakfast away after our Saturday evening meal but we did!) amazing full English and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.  Best yoghurt I’ve had in a very long time.  Everyone we came across was delightful, but special thanks to John, Alex and Julie for making our stay so special.  We’ll be back!

Fabulous place!

My wife and I ate in the restaurant today with our nephew. The ambiance was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and helpful. There was lots of choice on the menu and the range of wines on sale was comprehensively excellent. I ate the fish and chips, which came with crushed peas (much better than the standard mushy peas), homemade tartar sauce, and homemade chip shop curry sauce. The latter was nicely balanced, with enough kick to be interesting but not overpowering. My wife had the fish platter which included large whitebait, smoked salmon, mackerel pate, salad, and toasted homemade bread. It was so substantial that she was too full to eat a pudding, I had the sticky toffee pudding as my dessert … and I’ve never eaten a better one. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant and will certainly go there again.

A great little gem!

Beautiful building with a roaring log fire. Staff were lovely and friendy and attentive. Food arrived promptly and absolutely beautifully cooked and presented. We will definitely be back soon. Thankyou so much 

Wonderful Lunch

Absolutely lovely place to eat and stay in a picturesque little village. The fact it is so popular is testament to it’s charm. The pub ticks every box: friendly and welcoming; cosy, with roaring log fires; interesting rustic interiors; excellent ales and tasty bar snacks. Dinner was superb, with delicious vegetables grown locally. The venison was perfectly cooked and the celeriac purée silky smooth. Huge portions of local cheese with home made digestives and excellent chutney. Stayed in room 5. Huge with well equipped bathroom and the luxury of having a roll top bath in room. Lots of thoughtful touches, including fresh milk and home made short bread. The landlord was so welcoming and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Can’t recommend this lovely place highly enough and look forward to returning.

An absolute gem in delightful location

We stayed here for one night. We booked dinner bed and breakfast. The room was absolutely lovely and very big. Lovely toiletries, bath in bedroom and a great shower in the bathroom. Nice smelly toiletries provided. Dinner was really great three courses for £35. All courses were cooked up perfection. Breakfast was again very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all a great stay !

A great stay

Such a wonderful stay at the Lord Poulett arms this past weekend as a belated 50th birthday celebration.

Staff are what makes this a special place to visit.  From the minute we checked in to the minute we left, everyone was fantastic, always friendly and smiling.  What a happy place this must be to work, well done to management.

We were booked into one of the smaller rooms (3) with a bathroom across the hall.  The bedroom itself was anything but small.  Comfortable with all mod cons but kept in a traditional setting, and the home made short bread was a nice touch.  The private bathroom across the hall was small, but had a perfect walk in shower and again every amenity you could think off.  The downside to the room was the heat, being a very hot weekend, but this wasn’t anyone’s fault, the fan in the room was a welcome relief with windows wide open!

We had a dinner inclusive option, and food was fab.  It was nice to dine Al fresco in the wonderful garden.  We certainly were lucky to have this option.  We were served by Grace, who was a lovely young lady, and I wish her every luck with her studies and travel plans.  

Breakfast was amazing – the sausages were the best I have tasted.  The buffet table was great too, with lots of fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, juices and even everything your need for a bloody Mary is needed.  I did especially have to smile at the “medical” tin with everything you may need to recover from the night before.. thankfully we did not need this, this time anyway!  

Thanks again for a lovely weekend, we will be back, but this time in winter to appreciate the indoor space and fires.
