I booked here on the basis of good reviews and scores. Sadly several weeks after booking the property cancelled although I had paid in full upfront. I was refunded.  This cancellation made for complications with my trip as other places had sold out. I am sure it is a lovely establishment but bookers need to be aware that their booking may be cancelled

Stayed here for 3 nights.  This place so was lovely, Steve and Cath was so welcoming. The rooms was the 3 C’s Comfortable, Cosey and Clean. 
All our rooms had Netflix and YouTube which was really good. Breakfast was served every morning and was very tasty! 
I could not fault this place in any way!

Comfortable, Cosey and Clean

This was our last overnight stop having done the NC500. The accommodation was very clean with plenty of information in the room about local restaurants. Breakfast was delicious and plenty of it. Would definitely recommend staying here. 

Excellent 

Stayed for two nights for a wedding. Immaculately clean, big room with great facilities, superb breakfast and Cathrine and Steve were brilliant hosts. I can’t recommend the Alexander House highly enough. Definitely will stay again next time we’re in Gretna!

Steve and cath were so accommodating with our stay after having to change our dates for staying for a wedding. They couldn't do enough while we were there and before. The breakfasts were beautiful, the place was immaculately clean and well presented and we would definitely stay there again.

Great

First stop on our journey around the NC500. Very friendly, very clean and an excellent breakfast. Handy for the station. Bed really comfy and en-suite very clean. Would highly recommend. Cath and Steve are lovely. Great idea to have guest only lounge and mini bar.

We have just stayed at this lovely accommodation for a night on our way to Edinburgh. Lovely hosts,made to feel very welcome from the moment you meet them. Accomodation is lovely, no kids,no pets and no smoking. Perfect.!!! Would definitely stay here again. Breakfast lovely and rooms spotless. Very impressed.

Lovely over night stop

Lovely place inside and out, very friendly staff, clean and very comfortable rooms, great service and variety for breakfast. Convenient to all local attractions, bars and shopping. Perfect place to stay ⭐️

Holiday 

We only stayed one night to break up our cross-border journey and I dare say most guests are similarly transient, and for that purpose close to the motorway it was perfectly adequate.  The room appeared clean but the beds were low and on solid bases and the decor was very uninspiring.  Breakfast was perfectly acceptable but I am at a loss to understand the abundance of five star ratings, because to us this offered no more than the minimum we would expect from a B&B at this price point.

Had we been met on arrival by the lady of the house then we may well have had a more positive impression, but sadly the welcome we received from her husband was woefully inadequate and brusque (he didn't know our names, even though he [wrongly] told us we were the only guests expected that night and we arrived when we said we would; he wasn't very forthcoming in relation to where we might eat; when I tracked him down to ask about the wi-fi code he seemed annoyed that we hadn't already spotted it was included in the fire evacuation notice on the wall (so perhaps he should have pointed this out...); and above all he failed to inform us that there was a guest lounge at the end of the corridor, which led to us having to while away the evening off-site instead).  Maybe he'd just had a bad day...

To summarise, if you just want a bed for the night then this will probably you do nicely, but at the end of a holiday it was a disappointment.  FWIW the B&B we used nr Penrith on the way up I've rated at five stars.
