I arrived 9pm telephoned to check in and the owner hurled abuse at me yelling down the phone which left me too scared to stay. He told me to ‘get lost’ when I said I did not feel comfortable with his threatening behaviour towards me. I left the property very shaken up in a strange town with nowhere to stay. I would not advise anybody to stay here.

Do not stay here

we arrived in Hadfield tired and hungry after 70 mile bike ride. We rode up and down st road several times looking for a sign. We identified address as 105 but still no sign. Asked 3 locals who were unaware of a hostel in Hadfield. Finally after finding the front door of 105 in small writing on the window it said hikers and bikers with a phone number to ring.
Bike were locked in basement which was secure. Upon being let into the house the stench of old cigarettes hit us straight away. We were shown the fridge and milk we could use. We were shown to our twin room, sat on the beds to sink into lumpy old mattresses. Even the rooms in the room were dirty but the toilet/shower were filthy. The shower curtain had black mould at the bottom, there was black mould around the fixtures. There was not even a tiny bar of guest soap. There was toilet paper with a filthy toilet brush next to the toilet. The blinds in the room were not black out blinds and did not fit the windows! The window was open at the bottom and unmovable. We were told there was only one place to eat in Hadfield or have take away. We were directed to the lamp and given their details and menu card. We went down only to be told ‘we don’t serve food on Mondays and Tuesdays.
There is a newly opened cafe next door whic we used for breakfast.. it was freezing and everything was white including white fake wood plastic tables making it a cold and unwelcoming place. The woman was unfriendly and had worryingly dirty hands which we only noticed later. My friend had English breakfast myself veggie breakfast. She only had instant coffee! So had tea, my sausages were burnt, egg and mushrooms swimming in fat. 
There is a step down to the tables which we both tripped over as did another customer. This needs safety taping before someone breaks something.
The worst overnight stay I’ve ever had and this is not a Hostel it’s a shabby bnb.

Dirty smelly uncomfortable

Phoned ahead as requested. After 15mins wait at door phoned again  and he came. Inside hall and stairs with smoke alarm pinging away - needed new battery?  Shown room and fridge in public passage cupboard where milk kept. Had to go to nearby cashpoint as no other way to pay. Leaped out of shower soapy as got hotter and hotter and shower sink filling up.
Controls not adjustable and shower sink blocked up - took 20 mins to drain.
Cooling down got under duvet on bed and found the mattress distorting at every move and the pillow almost too lumpy to use.  Tried and failed to soften the lumps.  Radiators could not be turned on. No breakfast or public rooms as sometimes advertised. Retired to nearby restaurant to warm up as much as to eat.  On downstairs entrance door still rated 8!!

Fair, poor, worse

Not sure what to say really! We arrived mid afternoon on a Sunday having walked from Stockport on the Trans Pennine Trail,  the Café was closed so had to phone the owner to lives nearby. He showed us the room which was ok, if a little tired all pretty basic, bed was soft and uncomfortable so we didn't sleep that well. We were told the café didn't open on  Monday which was a blow until we learnt that it didn't open until 9am which would have been far to late for us to complete our next days walk. some people just don't seem to want to work at there business but that's their choose. The owner of the B&B doesn't own the café so we can't see this arrangement working out for long.

HMM!

As part of our Trans Pennine Trail we booked this accommodation well in advance of our journey. We arrived early in the afternoon when the cafe had actually closed but we were given a very warm welcome and shown up to our ensuite room. Tea and coffee were available in the room.There was a wonderful view of the Pennines from our window.The only disappointment was breakfast as it was only available from 9 am and we needed to start our long trek to Peniston well before that time. However there was an excellent cafe just across the road.
