Stopped at the Salmon Inn for lunch when we spent a few hours in Galashiels. What a great decision. The welcome from the staff was warm and friendly. Service was excellent but the highlight was the food! Delicious! Good sized portions and it was clearly freshly prepared and cooked. They are also dog friendly so our two collies were able to chill out too. Highly recommended

Great Food

If you stay in Galashiels stay here. Great value, lovely clean rooms and modern. The staff are friendly and professional. The pub is great (you can’t hear it from your room) it’s just a lovely place to stay in the heart of Galashiels

Brilliant

An excellent find. 
Warm, comfortable room with all the amenities you could ask for. Quiet room despite being on the first floor in what is essentially a pub with rooms. 
Good, no nonsense food. Not Egon Ronay, but very good standard fare. 
Friendly staff and locals in the very busy bar, no issue with being a Sassenach here. 
Only minor gripes were the lack of a car park and no cask beer, but that won’t prevent a return.

Excellent overnight stop

A pub but with rooms and excellent food in the restaurant. Rooms are nicely decorated but shame the main light made it gloomy. No usb charging plugs. Ate in the restaurant on both nights and food really is very good. Obviously has a good reputation locally as it was busy on both nights.

A good find

I've stayed at the Salmon Inn once before and knew that the rooms are nicely decorated and the food in the pub below is very good.
However my last stay must have been in a much warmer month as this time I was freezing! When I arrived in the late afternoon the heater had been turned on but the room felt chilly. It's a big room, high ceilings, no curtains and draughty windows so it was hardly suprising that the very small electric heater hadn't made much difference. But I went out for a couple of hours and hoped that by the time I got back the room (S) would have warmed up. It felt just as cold and there was barely any warmth coming from the wall heater. I went down for dinner and reported the problem and asked the bar staff if I could have a portable fan heater to warm up the room. I was told there wasn't anything they could give me and her suggestion was to stay in the bar to keep warm! She clearly didn't care.
I went back to my room after dinner and had to wear a fleece, my puffa jacket, scarf and gloves to sit under the covers while watching TV. At  bedtime I doubled up the kingsize duvet cover and slept with my socks on and my fleece on over my pjs. There were no extra blankets and no way to heat the room any better. To pay £70 and to shiver in your room is ridiculous! In Scotland, surely cold temperatures are expected in winter and a room should be cosy and warm? Sleeping in my car wouldn't have been much colder!
As others have said, breakfast is a 'help yourself' selection of prepacked items. For the price of the stay and considering there's the restaurant below it wouldn't be hard to provide breakfast. Again, there's the sense that no one cares. You get your key to a nice room and then you're on your own!
I wouldn't stay again, not even in a warmer month simply because of the poor customer care. If it was a B&B in someone's home and the person you spoke to owned the business then I'm sure they'd do something to make your stay warm and comfortable - there's a Tesco and ASDA a few minutes walk away where a cheap fan heater, water bottle or blanket could be bought! Poor effort.

Ice Box

A quiet family meal for my daughters Birthday. The salmon is one of my favourite places to eat. The staff have always been absolutely fantastic. The food is out of this world. Lots to choose from. No long waiting times. Great portions for your money. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Lovely family run business 5 Stars from me. Looking forward to being back soon 

23rd Birthday Meal for my Daughter 

Stayed for two nights in one of the rooms above the pub. We didn’t expect total silence but all other reviews had said how quiet it was. Instead of the usual quiet hubbub you would expect, we had the heavy bass of dance music thumping up to our room until closing time. This was despite us asking it to be turned down. Once the pub closed at half past midnight, we then had an excellent nights sleep. 

Very disappointed by the breakfast laid out for the next morning along a glorified shelf in the corridor which was called a table. Not worth calling breakfast and so we wandered into the the town. For the price per night of £90, you would expect a bit more effort.

The room however was beautiful, the bed incredibly comfy and the shower brilliant. The staff were friendly too, especially the housekeeper but we would recommended staying somewhere else.

 Perfect place if you don’t want or need an early night

Not keen on food or service today. Food took to long to come out and was no busier than usual. Sticky toffee pudding was dry like it had been re heated several times and when I told server she was not helpful and still had to pay

Stayed 1 night. Lovely clean modern rm, comfy bed. Shame it doesn't do cooked breakfast but there's help urself breakfast snacks. Had dinner in the restaurant. Nice food n v friendly staff. Will definitely come back.

Nice hotel

Two night stay. Nice pub in the centre of town with a busy bar that has a proper ‘local’ feel. Room was smallish but great - king size bed, good linen etc and looked recently refurbished. Neat bathroom (shower only but a good one). As others have commented, no breakfast served but there are some ‘help yourself’ items available including porridge, croissants, cereal bars, yoghurt and juice available. Tea and coffee (and Tunnocks teacakes !) in the room. Didn’t eat in the pub this time but food is good. Pub has no parking but on street parking nearby. Room overlooked the main street but was quiet. Will return.
