Ended up in the best three rooms of the house (and garden-the Cabin - WOW!) and they really were...absolutely gorgeous! So glad to see that Babington remains at the same quality after not having been for over 5 years. Excellent service of course, fantastic food, sumptuous decor and surrounded by the usual lovely and friendly staff and guests. Privacy is still enormously respected and the grounds are looking even better than before. Thank you for a truly brilliant stay, it was like returning home after all of these years :)

Perfect! Heavenly!

Left Babington House very disappointed after a two night stay which we were all in need of and were really looking forward to. We are a family of 3 with one well behaved 11 year old girl yet we felt unwelcome for the whole time we stayed. Despite clearly targeting families with bunk bed rooms and facilities like a kids club, they don’t want families there but I would guess they feel they have no choice because of the income these rooms generate. After all, most of the clientele are very young and probably not spending very much whilst visiting. We were barely allowed to use any of the facilities, which were empty of other people most of the time. We were not allowed into the bar areas and had to sit in a separate deli area for dinner because we didn’t want to eat at 6pm. And then on the last morning we were told we didn’t actually need to do that and could have eaten in the restaurant?? 

Babington House should probably be adults only. 

There is little to no management of staff and everything seems chaotic. On more than one occasion we were given incorrect information from reception staff, like what times we could eat and use the pool facilities etc. 

Food is average and the menu rarely changes. We were bored by the second day. Food arrived cold and the pizzas were usually burnt on the times we ordered them.

Following our stay I made a complaint to the manager who sent a lukewarm response and clearly couldn’t care less. 

The rooms are beautiful and the spa service was fantastic  but that is the only parts of the stay I feel positive about.

Don’t waste your money at Babington House, it’s an expensive disappointment.

Disappointing

Really underwhelmed by babbington house. The reviews that state a mean girl vibe by reception are a 100 percent accurate. They are unfriendly and unwelcoming for sure.The team seemed stressed. Woke up to cleaning staff sat in hall way staring at phones waiting for rooms to become vacant. Room was cold, no home comforts like biscuits in your room unless you paid for Pringles or nuts or booze. The food is average. And the air of entitlement by young wannabe guests  just makes the atmosphere poor. There are far better places to stay at 1/2 the price. I couldn’t wait to leave 

Poor 

Just returned from a short and enjoyable break.
Spa - excellent, even though it was a very busy time. 
Bar - nice cocktail selection, nice area with music and lighting constantly monitored to keep a good hotel bar atmosphere 
Restaurant - all dishes we had were excellent at dinner. At breakfast the full English was a bit odd, loads of overly crunchy bacon and two small overcooked mushrooms but not a disaster. Also having just one janky self-service domestic toaster seemed a strange choice.
Grounds - beautiful
Pool - very welcome on a bright October afternoon
Overall a really nice stay.
I can see how some people would be put off by some of the other guests, the mixture of entitlement and people trying really really hard to demonstrate that they are important or cool or important and cool will rub people up the wrong way but that doesn’t massive bother me unless people are actively intruding on my privacy which didn’t happen.

Great short break

Had I read the reviews below, I never would have made a reservation. I am glad I didn't and that I did! We had a quick mid-week, one night stop-over and our experience couldn't have been more different to the negative reviews immediately below. As we approached the house, down the long drive, everything was immaculate. The Georgian facade of the house is beautiful, without being over-powering. The lawns were all freshly "striped" and meticulously maintained. The welcome by the young staff was bright, helpful and friendly. Nothing seemed too much trouble. We had chosen a room in the main house, which was stunning, equipped with everything we might need. Huge comfortable bed, spacious room with a luxurious bathroom. A door on the loo was the only missing but desired item! We took (complimentary) tea in the garden and then walked the grounds. Yes, the clientele was young(ish), many with small children, but there were no issues or lack of space, as everyone was quite spread out over the property. Dinner and breakfast in the Orangery were both first class. The food was up to London restaurant standards and the service prompt and helpful. Net, net, we had a short but wonderful stay. While hopefully things are on the up, a gentleman was complaining about a broken A/C system in his room and cold food, as I was checked out, so a few kinks still to work out!

The ol' gal bounces back...

Lovely stay in Somerset for a short break from the city. Enjoyed walks around the estate, relaxing spa treatments and swimming in the indoor and outdoor pools. We had a coach house room, which was really nice and spacious. The orangery was a great setting for dinner and the daily afternoon tea was a real treat

Little bit of rural luxury

I really don't want to be that person who complains, but Sunday afternoon at Babington House for dinner was a big disappointment. Started well, Andy Fish greeted us and as always worked hard to make sure everyone was welcome, I saw him work the room in the dinning area as well as the bar and the library. Unfortunately that can't be said of the staff in the restaurant. Left until we had to ask for a menu, ordered drinks, when they arrived one was missing, when we asked for it staff just laughed. Food was good, then we were left, Andy spotted we were waiting and got a menu for desert. Then left again until we gave up, asked for the bill, waiter was rude to my daughter who now wants to give up her membership. Shame.

We went to Babington House on Sunday 22nd January and we had a very disappointing Sunday lunch with poor food and service. 
No tap water, no cutlery on our table, food served cold and staff not around meaning we always had to call them over. 
Overall a lack of staff and substandard quality of service which you wouldn't expect from a Soho House. 

Very poor experience

We went for a late Sunday lunch . Have always enjoyed it here . Expensive but normally the service and attention are excellent. Gone considerably downhill . My daughter ordered the soup to start . She had to request bread as it came with none . We ordered two roast beef and one chicken. The vegetables were enough for one person . We requested more . The roast were overcooked, no serving utensils. We also had to request gravy as the only bit was on the plate with the meat . Were we supposed to dribble it off the plate and share between three . It’s such a shame as it was always known for fantastic service and food

Going downhill

It was my daughter’s birthday.  We had planned a swim before lunch but, as luck would have it, I phoned the day before only to find the pools were closed over the weekend due to a technical fault. We met in the restaurant and ordered drinks (took a long time).  We then ordered food.  The only childrens meals on offer were cheeseburger or pasta in tomato sauce! They don’t do pizzas on Sundays. When my daughter asked for sausage and chips for her children, as her friend’s daughter on the next table had,  she was told the kitchen was probably too busy.  However they managed to do this..🙄  3 of us had roast beef and my partner had steak and chips.  The steak and chips were good although a steak knife would have been handy.  However the vegetables with the roast were underwhelming (Savoy cabbage I think, carrots and small bowl of cauliflower cheese to share), the roast potatoes soft,  and the Yorkshire puddings stone cold so asked for some hot ones. The replacements were just as cold!  I agree with another review that the food is pretty cold and also agree with other reviews there  can be a problem with service and attitude of the staff due to poor training. When we arrived we were asked if it was a special occasion so I was a bit disappointed when my daughter didn’t even get a candle on her dessert. In the past we’ve had a good experience and  very good roast lunches but it’s hit and miss and in future will go to restaurants which we know  are far  more reliable.
