I live locally to this pub and guest house and although have eaten here many times I’ve never needed to stay until the night before my wedding.

We arranged a meal for approx 30 guests the night before our wedding and the food didn’t disappoint. They tend to serve a good mix of locally sourced meats as well as some tasty veggie options, the food has always been excellently presented and very tasty and really should be recommended!

We had all 6 of the rooms booked for the evening and my room is where the standards really slipped for me. The room was clean but for 100per night it was very dated and really not very tastefully furnished. To make things worse the bed sheets were old, not pleasant and very far from luxurious. The mattress was the same, old and very uncomfortable one where you can feel and hear every spring that poked you in the back, sadly the night before my wedding was one of the worst I’ve ever had.

Given the standard of food and look and feel of downstairs it was a real shock and total disappointment.

I’m certain we’ll be going back for food but sadly we won’t be staying again unless the room rate decreases or interiors are updated.

Pre wedding stay

Just back from a party of 10 celebrating my daughter's 30th birthday....we had a lovely space to ourselves, which meant that the 3 young children could relax without annoying other diners...and we were so well looked after...excellent food, good wine...a memorable day...thank you.

Lunch party for 10

This little gem off the beaten track in Sutton, Ely is wonderful.   Excellent inviting staff, lovely cosy rooms, and second to none food.  This Inn is a **** property and is also Michelin listed.  The food was fantastic, perhaps a little bit more pricey than your everyday restaurant, but well worth every penny.  It is not expensive at £70 per night and this included a lovely, hot, breakfast.  Couldn't fault this little gem at all.  Will be returning.

Fantastic

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the lovely old pub next to a canal. The young women looking after us were efficient and pleasant but there was no welcome from the manager/owner. The river suite we stayed in was rather dated (1980s) and could do with a complete refurbishment. We appreciated the fridge with fresh milk and suitcase stand but the broken toilet seat, missing tiles, old lumpy pillows, grubby doors and battered pine furniture needed replacing. 
The wi fi didn’t work in the bedroom and one of the glass light covers was full of dead insects.  This place could be fantastic with a little investment and some attention from the owner/manager.

comfortable and clean room, would recommend the place, was here on business but was quietly impressed, will stay again.
Its just tucked away down a lane - not what you expect to find, in saying that I didnt know what to expect but wasnt dissapointed.;)

Very nice, friendly place

We had a warm welcome. As we were attending an evening wedding party which could have gone on quite late we were given a set of keys to let ourselves into the property - which was very helpful. 
Room was clean, well equipped with an excellent en suite shower. 

1 night stay

We were a party of four who would often visit. But it had been awhile and boy was it was disappointing. The whole place lacked any warmth or atmosphere and it is clear the aim of the staff is ‘get em in and get em out’.

The food use to be a delight, but sadly no one up dates the website so despite our anticipation we had all looked at website to see what we could expect. we were full of disappointment as the menu in the restaurant and the menu on line do not match.

We ordered our food and a bottle of wine that cost £30.00

The food was ok but nothing special and nothing you can get else where. 

But I think really it was the lack of service that was most striking. So despite ordering what I feel is an expensive bottle of wine, we were never asked if we would like another or if in fact we would like any drinks. 

We didn’t order puds as they were so under interesting.

One of our party was sitting facing the bar where the service staff stand and she commented that she was being stared at and that perhaps we should ask for the bill. When the waitress came over she told us we were the only table left. It was 10.30pm! we hadn’t seen each other for ages we wanted to enjoy each other’s company, enjoy the food and have a drink and relax.

Not at the Anchor you don’t, the waitress also told us that she had a baby she was wanting to get back to. This read as hurry, hurry I wanna get home!

So after spending  £100.00 per couple we were left feeling like we had been rushed.

It would seem the Anchor’s mantra is ‘get em in and get em out’. This is fine but there are far better places to eat that have atmosphere, warmth and really good food.

We won’t be visiting here again and if you want to spend time with friends and relax go somewhere else.

Not what it use to be ....

Fantastic food,quality of ingredients is superb and service is second to none,we often visit as it's local to us and is always our go to place for a good quality meal. Prices are standard and you get what you pay for. Pub is also located next to river and is safe enough to walk the dogs.
