We stayed here for a Wedding at the weekend. The bride and groom booked the whole venue and had lunch and dinner there then stop over in the hotel rooms. The room was FREEZING we went up at 12.30pm to find no heating on, went down to complain and found an arrogant, aggressive owner...the heating hadnt been turned on and when it was it took ages to kick in....they sent another guest up with a plug in to make do!! The room was also filthy with an unusable bathroom. The bed small, lumpy and uncomfortable, as where the pillows. The food....awful and expensive. How this gets better ratings from others i have no idea??? £21.95 for beef medallion with FROZEN roasties!! If wed have been paying for food....we wouldnt have. Skipped breakfast and went elswhere. Avoid this venue!! And ignore the pics on its website, must have been taken 15 years ago cos it doesn't look like this now!! Stained bedroom ceilings, hot water kettle gizmo that fills more than the supplied cup size....i could go on all day. Utter rubbish....and opposite a far better hotel and golf resort.

Worse hotel we've ever stayed in 

Having seen some of the reviews for the restaurant (it seems there are two Tripadvisor entries for Truffles) we bought a Living Social Dinner BnB package - having had similar deals for the Hotel down the road. The location was the only similarity. 

We arrived late afternoon and found the doors locked and lights out - not what I was expecting from somewhere that dubbed itself a 'Hotel'. It seems the owner (and probably only member of staff) was asleep. Once inside, we started having misgivings but thought lets give it the benefit of the doubt. 

We were shown to our room up rickety stairs and along a shabby corridor, to a room with the 'four-poster' as shown in the photos. When we looked around the room, we realised how amazing the photographer must have been. Badly hand-painted furniture, cheap laminate flooring and fittings were complemented with a very unsavoury bathroom that I didn't trying to wash in. 

It was hard to take it all in at first while we sat and weighed our options but we both agreed we were not going to stay, even if it meant having to pay again for somewhere else - which is what we actually had to do. I certainly didn't want to eat anything prepared in a place that was that dirty and unkempt in the public areas - God knows what the kitchen was like!

We made our way back down to speak to the owner, but despite looking around the public areas for a while couldn't find him, so left the key and escaped. 

I gave this place 1* - mainly as its not possible to give less. Suffice to say, since this experience, its become a shorthand on almost any occasion for "it could be worse" - we now say "we could be at Truffles"!

Awful LivingSocial near miss

My wife and I stayed last Friday at Truffles hotel. We had a lovely meal in the evening. The restaurant was quiet but it was a nice room and our stay was also enjoyable. I had the best nights sleep for a long time. James the host was very attentive and made sure we were well looked after throughout of stay. We look forward to visiting again. Thanks

Excellent meal and pleasent stay

Booked Truffles and Bruffles for my partners birthday. After eating at truffles a few times - thought it would be a nice touch to stay too!!

All i can say is that it was the biggest let down ever!! We stood at reception for about 10 minutes , the chef / owner comes through and takes our money and then a really nice guy (waiter maybe) shows us to our room - the lights did not work , the floor was covered in the previous persons hair and bits , there is a door in the room which goes through to the office and i could here bookings being taken while in the room with the TV on! , the bathroom had hair in it , the floor in the bathroom was dirty , there was a dead fly on the table under the window. (b and b £20 quid a night standard) not the luxury at all i was expecting. 

We immediately asked for either our money or back to be moved (we were moved to the family room) this was even worse - the wardrobe was painted and the painting looked like my nephew had done it , hair everwhere - curtains from oxfam , i know sound harsh but honestly just such a bad standard. 

Out side the room there is a fire exit door (there is an old sock thats dirty tied to the door) ha!!! We went straight down and asked for our money back - it was not a problem and the lady was so sorry about the situation. 

As we were complaining there was a leak in the bar , people running around everywhere 

Ha honestly - Faulty Towers comes to mind   A real shame as i loved the food there , but we wont return

Gutted!!!!

I treated my boyfriend to a stay at this hotel and a meal in Truffles Restaurant on the same site for his 30th birthday.  We have stayed at a range of hotels and never have we been made to feel so welcome!!!  Naomi who checked us in and looked after us during our stay was a pleasure to meet and couldn't do enough for us.  She treated us as friends and it was plain to see how passionate she is about her job.  She was really bubbly and made you feel very comfortable in an extremely beautiful setting!

Naomi takes real pride in the rooms and making sure you have everything you need.  We stayed in the romantic 4 poster room and it was gorgeous!  The woodwork was all distressed light blue and gave the room a real beach feel.  We also had complimentary slippers which I took great pleasure padding around in whilst I got ready for our evening meal!

The one and only issue we had was the temperature of the room, it was really warm even with all the windows open but I realise that there is nothing that could be done about this, the heating wasn't on so we just slept on top of the covers.  The pillows were very comfortable though, as was the bed which is a rare find in hotels these days, usually you only get one very flimsy pillow!

Overall, we had a lovely stay and will definitely be returning!  Thank you so much Naomi for making it so special!
