I have just returned from a chilly autumnal trip to Alnmouth where I had the pleasure of staying once more at Nether Grange.  

My work brings me to the North East as a  professional videographer of nocturnal animals such as bats, nightjars, owls, badgers and the like which meant I was out at odd hours and the hotel was most accommodating.  One of the lovely girls gave me tips on the local area and even allowed me to take some macro photography shots of a wonderful leopard slug that was making its way dutifully up the window. On the outside I must stress! I can't remember her name but I remember she had a southern accent. 

My room was spotless, very comfortable  and I most enjoyed the warming shower after being out for hours in the cold. 

I ate most of my meals at Nether Grange  and have to say I enjoyed every morsel that I consumed.  I have noted previous reviews mentioning a specific chef and that he is "the best chef in the west". I did have the fortune to speak to some of the kitchen staff and I believe I may have been lucky enough to speak to the legend himself. A polite and engaging man (as we're all the staff) whose food is divine.

In the words of uncle Arnold. I'll be back.

5 stars for Nether Grange

Listen, three words that summarise why the experience at Nether Grange is always amazing: Jack - Bayne. 
He is such an incredible Chef, the way he makes the game terrine and haunch of venison with a port and amangac sauce is SO tasty, FINGER LICKING FINGER LICKING! He also makes extremely tasty and delicious butter spaghetti, using only real butter not LURPAK. He’s extremely friendly to me and my friends and he would always pop his head out the door and put his thumbs up and say “best chef in the west!”. So so nice of him to do that. Jack Bayne was the best chef, is the best chef in the west. No one can even compare he’ll have his own TV show one day. The venue is really stunning and  service is quality, would highly recommend nether grange.

Nether Grange is a beautiful, old country house located in the historic village of Alnmouth in Northumberland.  It is by the sea (overlooking the oldest 9-hole course in England) and only minutes from the bucolic countryside and the Cheviots near the Scottish border.  

It was a hiking trip for us with the group HF that had reserved for the entire week, although all travelers are welcome.  Hiking in the area is wonderfully diverse from long hikes along the beach to the rolling foothills of the Cheviots.  We had one rainy morning and even that was fun as we walked through fields and meadows around the River Aln. 

As for Nether Grange, it is spotlessly clean and quiet.  The managers, Allyson and Reuben,  did everything possible to make our visit perfect, and their well-trained staff are efficient and very personable.  We had full board so the meals, from a  varied menu selection, were wonderfully prepared and graciously served.  Our chosen packed lunch bags were ready everyday to enjoy on a scenic picnic stop along the hike.

As you can tell by my reviews, Nether Grange is a 5-star place to stay and the surrounding area is a 5-star place to visit.

Perfect Retreat

Having stayed at other HF Holiday hotels previously, I knew what to expect and wasn't disappointed. Fabulous food, wonderful rooms, fun evening entertainment and such personal service from Reuben, Allyson and their team, where nothing was too much trouble. Alnmouth is a lovely little village with so many great places to visit nearby; a few days is not enough. Highly recommended.

Absolutely wonderful

At approximately 1730hrs on TUESDAY 29 MARCH 2022 I was conducting my duties as a civilian when I entered the restaurant area of NETHER GRANGE HOTEL in ALNWICK for the purpose of eating my evening meal. As I entered through the large doors I noticed five large tables. Four of which at that time were attended by who I believe to be other guests. I approached the table where there were no other guests walking with speed as I felt hungry and wanted to order my meal promptly. When I was approximately 50CM to the table I extended my right arm and grasped firmly with my hand the back of the chair -that being posterior to the normal seating position of the chair- and shifted my body weight onto my left foot whilst simultaneously pulling the chair towards myself. I turned to the right on my left foot to enable the chair to pass by the front of my body before releasing my grasp on the chair and sitting myself upon it. I then took control of the chair by placing my right and left hands onto the chair and pulling it forward with myself so that I could be seated at the table. The I ordered sea bass and it was delicious. The chefs must be really good at their job! Top chefs ! Really nice sea bass! Top chefs and top hotel!

VERY NICE

An impressive glimpse into the history of our country's past, whilst I originally came here to work on myself and stay with my boyfriend's  brother for a few days I found myself enamoured by the 18th century architecture and as a proud advocate of the environment- the welcome call of nature within the local national park. I wouldn't say  my stay was perfect but what is in this oppressive society? That's okay...the past is the past

Had a wonderful time at the nether grange. Nice views. The food was nice and I enjoyed the setting. Alnmouth is generally a quaint place. Serenity, the fresh and crisp salinity of the maritime air combined with the auburn glow of a North Sea setting sun - bliss.

Superb!

This hotel is owned by HF Holidays. We paid a little extra for a 'better' room (little extras and fabulous sea view). Spotlessly clean. Lovely food,Fabulous staff. Nothing too much trouble. Offers guided walks or do your own thing and activities holidays.Book through HF Holidays. Clientele are mainly  50+ so nice, quiet and no marauding guests up and down the corridors. I'm a regular visitor. Alnmouth and the Northumberland coast are outstanding. A trip to Berwick and/or Edinburgh from Alnmouthl train station follows Britain's beautiful coastline - stunning views. So much to see and do, a week isn't enough.

Fabulous holday, wonderful staff

I had a wonderful stay here recently- was visiting the area for a bar mitzvah.  I must say I particularly enjoyed the steak and chips cooked to perfection by the resident chef (very polite man). The only issue i have is that everything was very expensive - i am normally a chicken nuggets guy but the wonderful aroma from the kitchen was irresistible so I invested many shekels in those wonderful steaks (and ketchup).
