We stayed here for 4 nights in December. Place is amazing with big pool and private beach. Lady who runs a place will go above and beyond to make you happy. Menu in the restaurant is limited, but it changes everyday and if you fancy something specific, you can always tell them in advance and they will be happy to make it for you. You feel like home there. Rooms are spacious and matress is very comfy!

Heaven

The star rating is indicative of the actual resort but my review is about how we felt there.
Read this entire review if you want to find a place to rest and relax in ultimate peace in Zanzibar.
After a 45minute drive south west of stone town, you will arrive at what feels like the resort on the end of the island. 
The resort was empty for a time and is now being rebuilt slowly and painstakingly on a small budget. But this doesn't stop you from fully relaxing with the awesome staff catering to all your needs. 
We stayed a week and they quickly adapted to our routine and knew what we liked to eat and drink. Ingela surprised me with vegetarian meals even though we had not asked for them. I was very happy.
They arranged for us to have a scooter two days while we were there and we went on a most amazing day trip with them to a secret island. 
The rooms are not new but they are clean and there are mosquito nets. We had a fan and when we mentioned the bed wasn't comfy they brought a different mattress for us.
The big thing you must understand about L'Oasis is this...
It is a simple place with people who care a great deal for you. 

If you are looking to relax in a simple affordable place, that is quiet with fantastic people who care then this is where you should go. 
Everyone came out to wish us well and say goodbye when we left because we had become friends. 
So our experience was actually 8 stars. We love you Ingela, Slim, and Mau!
We loved our stay there after we adjusted our mind's to why we were really there. 
Which was... to embrace the Zanzibarie hospitality and the utter beauty of the natural surroundings.

Blissful peace and quiet

Environment, food and staff is fantastic! Nice pool and relaxing! Our kids loved it.
The price is also good. Jumping from the cliffs into the water was fun. There are activities and fun stuff to do outside the hotel. 20min by car to see the monkeys/mangrove and 30-40min to one of the best beaches on Zanzibar.

Nice rooms in African style very nice beds, big pool, nice beach and exiting lowtide to explore. nice verandas for shade and rest!
Good food, remember to order about an hour in advance as recommended. we talked to other guests who was travelling around to diffrent hotells and they where really praising the food at L'Oasis!
The staff organize really nice daytrips, to spicefarm, jozani monkypark and snorkeling.

We had a six-night reservation from 30 December 2016 to 5 January 2017 for two adults and three children ages 12, 10, and 8.  This was supposed to be a week of fun and relaxation at the beach after a five-day safari in the Serengeti.  We checked out on 31 December after the first night there and never went back.  Here was our experience:

1.  The first thing we noticed after checking in to the L'Oasis was the lack of air conditioning and fans.  The unit we were given (bungalow #1) had no air conditioning.  I'm pretty sure none of them do.  It had two bedrooms.  One had a large bed (full or queen size) and the other had a large bed (full or queen size) and a twin-size bed.  All three beds had mosquito nets.  However, only one of the two rooms had a ceiling fan.  David (the son of Ingela who is the owner and manager of the hotel) was putting together some stand-up floor fans that they had obviously just purchased. I saw he had at least two fans.  They were brand new and still in the box.  When I asked him for one he explained that they didn't have enough for everyone and that other people had already requested them.  He said he would try to get me one "tomorrow or the next day."  That night was unbearable.  We were all drenched in sweat, even those of us who slept in the room with the ceiling fan.  On a separate note, the entire 20 hours we were on the property David usually was not wearing a shirt nor shoes which we found unprofessional.

2.  Then, as we started unpacking our bags and getting settled in, my 10-year-old daughter found a big rusty nail on the twin bed she was going to sleep in.  Soon after, my 8-year-old son noticed the top of the mosquito net over his bed was covered in sand.  We never mentioned either of these to Ingela or her staff.

3.  Next was dinner.  My eight-year-old son ordered the grilled prawn plate.  Typically the term prawn is used for large shrimp but these were tiny garden shrimp and the plate only came with a handful.  My son ate all of his plate, then half of my wife's pan-fried kingfish, and then we ordered him a chicken plate and he ate about half of that as well.  My son weighs 53 pounds.  He's always the smallest boy in his class.  My point is that the portion sizes of the meals at L'Oasis are tiny.

4.  Now it was time for bed.  Unfortunately, there was a loud party going on next door.  I understand we were there on the last Friday night of 2016.  However, the music was extremely loud and didn't stop playing until about 2:40am.  No one from the L'Oasis staff or management explained or apologized for the music.

5.  The next morning my wife woke up with bedbug bites all over her arm.  We mentioned it to Ingela's daughter-in-law Mimi but no response whatsoever.  No apology, no concern, no excuses, nothing.  We also told Ingela that our toilet stopped working.  Water was not flowing into it although we had water at the sink and shower.  At 12:30pm no one had yet come to fix it nor to clean our bungalow. We spoke to Ingela about it again.  She didn't apologize nor explain why it hadn't been addressed.

6.  There were no meats offered with the breakfast buffet.  Flies were all over the uncovered food.  It was overall a pretty pathetic offering.

7.  Then we walked to the front desk and asked Ingela about the "good beach within walking distance" that she had mentioned to us during our check-in the previous night.  She said she had never actually been there but that it definitely existed.  She said it was a 15-20 minute walk or a short cab ride and she could have someone on her staff show us how to get there.  We asked her to have someone escort us to this beach.  She agreed and asked her daughter-in-law, Mimi, to get a staff member to walk us there.  After some back and forth with three of her staff members (one of whom was also shirtless) who were arguing amongst themselves about where this beach was and who would take us, they finally decided who would take us.  He seemed unsure of where this beach was and hesitant to take us.  When we mentioned this to Mimi (who was standing there listening to them argue) she said he was fine and said it was just that he didn't speak much English.  After a 25-minute walk over slippery and jagged rocks where I seriously thought my wife and/or children might crack their skulls open we made it to a beach that was not any better than the rocky beach in front of the L'Oasis.  We hung out for about 15 minutes then took a taxi back to the hotel.  When we walked by the front desk we told Mimi about the horrible experience.  She didn't say much in response.  However, about an hour later, Ingela came up to us and apologized and offered to pay for a taxi to try it again.  However we found it incredible that in six months of running the L'Oasis Ingela had not once bothered to figure out exactly where this beach was nor to have anyone on her staff do it either but yet she was quick to offer it as an option to her guests.

8.  The last thing was lunch.  It took a full 90 minutes to get one pizza, one burger, and three salads. There were only two other tables (with 2-3 people at each one) at the time that were occupied although I think only one of them was actually ordering food.

9.  By this time we had already made reservations at another hotel.  When we informed ingela we were leaving, she again showed no concern, she didn't ask why, she didn't try to convince us to stay, she didn't apologize for anything.
