Chalet Shalimar

We stayed in Chalet Elena which is located on the ground floor of Chalet Shalimar. It was well appointed with spacious accommodation and plenty of storage space ( perfect for my penchant for tidiness!!) It also had a great steam room and sauna, with a pool which was a huge apres-ski hit with the kids!! Although we were non-catered, included was daily cleaning which was to a high standard, and Oliver our concierge and chalet manager was totally dedicated and personable. Nothing was too much to ask and he seamlessly organised dinner bookings and the post skiing massages (all capable Physio's) He also helped us coordinate with BA who (unusually) messed up our baggage at Heathrow and had to courrier it out to us! The chalet was occupied by another two families in the upstairs Chalet Alex. We had been a bit worried about how it would all work with the shared pool etc as they had lots of children ( in addition to our five) but very little sound was made due to the solid nature of the chalet and it was all really pleasant; the kids got on well and it was very amiable. Small things like a supply of Evian water bottles, delightful unlimited toiletries, a well thought out welcome pack and a bottle of champagne upon arrival all added to the experience. We had preordered our groceries to be delivered to the chalet- if you go for the non-catered option it is worth doing this- it's a bit of a walk with lots of shopping bags! The only (potential) downside of the Chalet could be its location- it's a little walk into the centre of town and so taxis to and from can inflate the cost of the holiday. However it's very close to the Kleine Matterhorn lift which makes the snow park, ice bar/ ski paradise, and skiing to the Italian side very easy.
