This April for our holidays we really wanted to find a place by the beach with easy access to the beach. While exploring the hotels in Unawatuna, we found this gem of a hotel right by the beach. We had initially booked for 2 nights and upon checking into our room we knew we had to extend our stay by a day and ended up staying for three nights. The entire team at Tartaruga from the reception staff to the restaurant staff were amazing. I was so amazed at the way they took care of us with unparalleled hospitality. There was a nice breakfast buffet and the menu options at the restaurant was amazing. For the second day we were joined by two of my friends with their families, there were three 2 year old kids in the group and the hotel staff prepared all the baby food needed for the kids. Thank you Tartaruga for this amazing experience!!! We will return for sure next year

Best family beach getaway ever!

Before arriving in Unawatuna we were a little worried about the nature of the place (not the hotel but Unawatuna itself) as we had heard some negative things about it. However we had a lovely 3 nights here at the end of our 16 day tour of the beautiful Sri Lanka. Unawatuna is a seaside resort with lots of the usual tourist shops, a lovely beach and people of all nationalities but we enjoyed it. The bedroom and bathroom in the Tartaruga were spacious and clean and we had what were probably the best towels during our time in Sri Lanka. The staff were very friendly, the breakfast was very good and dining on the beach at night was lovely. I would definitely stay there again.

A lovely small beach side hotel

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Beach Restaurant and it was an exceptional experience. Large portions served which can be shared with more than one person. Great value for money. The staff were friendly. Highly recommended.Best restaurant in Unawatuna

Fantastic stay! The manager and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Pleasant environment and the food was delicious. 

Overall loved the experience and location! Would definitely comeback again for another stay with the family in the future.

Family Vacation

Wonderful location, super hotel, great staff. A special mention to the 2 bar men in the beach bar, who looked after us brilliantly. Booked for 4 nights, stayed for 6 and would have stayed longer if we could. Looking forward to returning here

Can't be faulted

I have been traveling all over the world to some 100 countries staying in all categories of hotels. I appreciate hotels that make you feel like a guest to the family, giving full service and acting at once on your slightest demands. Tartaruga hotel is one of the very few I would give full support to. The personel is very pleasant and trying to assist you with any demands. The hotel has nice rooms, very clean, good restaurant, pool and nearby see (ca50m).

best place in unawatuna.very good food the service is perfekt.Milan makes the best cocktails on the beach bar.will be back in december...also very comfortable rooms with perfekt breakfast..all the boys working there make a great job

best place on earth

Beautiful hotel and great staff! All the staff are friendly, professional and useful. Great location, everything u need is in the next street (lot of bars and restaurants for everyone’s taste). Also for the small kids is great choice as it’s not so noisy.

We had a great experience and definitely we ll come back again.

We ate the best seafood in Sri Lanka at Tartaruga restaurant. 
It was the perfect dinner with fresh seafood /delicious garlic butter on top. 
Nishan was the best waiter. He presented us every kind of fish / seafood and he was very kind and smart.

Tartaruga is an excellent place to chill out in Unawatuna.
The bar on the beach is the place to be and has the only draft Lion in town.
Milan and the bar staff can't do enough. They have all sports on and we even watched the early Premier League matches.
Cocktails are great and very reasonable.
We ate there many times and the food was always brilliant. Fresh seafood bbq are their speciality but did the best lasagne in had during ny time there. Pizza and pasta great too.
