We want to say a big thank you to lovely miss champa for a very good two nights stay in her guesthouse, she is really nice and sweet, and cook wonderful food, we took a safari to yala national park with her nice brother, many differents animal, close to the beach, hope to come back soon, Mr and Mrs Anderson Sweden

During our stay, Champa, the host, cooked a daily diner for us. The food is delicious.  Two bicycles are available for a cycle tour through the Kirinda, Bundala, and Tissa area. Worth a stay for more than a single night.

We booked a room via email months in advance, and Champa was a real pleasure to deal with. Her English is very good and she was incredibly helpful.

The room itself was basic but clean. The mosquito net was very much appreciated, and the room had two fans. The shower was cold but also much appreciated in the heat. The wifi was very good throughout our stay.

Each morning Champa prepared a vegetarian / vegan breakfast for us, which was amazing & freshly made. 

In the evenings she also prepared us a dhal and a curry, with no milk etc in, as well as fresh fruit. We ate at a couple of other places in the area during our stay but Champa’s food was by far the best, and she was so lovely & accommodating throughout.

Champa helped us book a taxi from the airport direct to her place, costing 20k rupees for a 6-hour journey, and we also booked the safari through her.

The safari cost 14k rupees for 2 people. Sadly, due to being high season and the sheer volume of tourists, we only saw elephants from a distance, and didn’t see any leopards. 

We did appreciate that the park therefore has plenty of areas for the wildlife to seek shelter, if they don’t want to be seen, and we actually really liked sitting in the middle of the park with the engine off, just listening to the sounds.

At the end of our stay Champa arranged another taxi to Galle for us, and when we got the bill for our whole stay and meals we thought it was worthy of more, so we offered a small tip. Like i said, the room is basic but everything was perfect from start to finish. Champa even helped with some confusion we had in our previous hotel, and was very informative about the local area.

I’d definitely go back & i’d recommend others to check out JC Guesthouse as well.

My girlfriend and I stayed at JC Guesthouse for a few nights whilst visiting Yala National Park.

Champa is the perfect host. She’s kind, caring and goes out of her way to make the stay a pleasure. Wonderful cook and always smiling :)

Her brother, Shantha, who does the safaris into Yala, is a true gentleman and an exceptional guide through the Sri Lankan jungle. Comfy jeep, great wildlife knowledge and an exceptional eye for spotting animals. His experience in the park makes him the perfect host. He managed to spot a baby leopard in a tree and predicted the exact spot where he would come down and drink from the lake. We had an incredible sighting, all alone, for over 5 minutes with the little leopard before the other jeeps found us. All thanks to Shantha.

A restful guesthouse, Champa made us feel very welcome, and her meals are yummy, her rice and curry was full of flavour! She arranged our Yala jeep safari with her brother, and also ‘rescued ‘ us when a booked driver didn’t show up to take us to our next destination. She quickly arranged a new driver within the hour, with our grateful thanks.
