La Laguna Gran Hotel

Great atmospheric hotel in the centre of town. Amazing old entrance and atrium with coffee shop, wine bar, and restaurant attached to a large new extension in complete contrast. A hotel with a split personality. If arriving by car, follow the hotel instructions to the underground car park, and the lift brings you to reception. We had a room in the old / noble section with huge wooden doors and a high wooden ceiling. Overlooking the street. The bathroom, built into the centre of the room, was quite basic, shower over bath, one basin, no hooks for towel or robes within reach of the shower. The sitting area had a TV, fridge, and tea/coffee making but not sufficiently replenished. The bed was large and comfortable. The air-conditioning never seemed to work properly, but as it was January, it didn't really matter. The restaurant was in the new section, white, stainless steel. The breakfast buffet was adequate with nice freshly squeezed orange juice. But the set evening menu was very limited and not to be recommended when there are so many restaurants in town. The roof terrace had a swimming pool and jacuzzi, which were too cold for us and a nice gym. The fact that our room, with its wooden doors led right off the balcony around the atrium meant it could be noisy. However we did enjoy our stay.
