My stay at the residencia was booked by a university, but I checked online prices, and I'd say it's good value for a hotel right in the middle of old Barcelona, within easy walking distance of many sights. The staff were friendly and the room was comfortable. For those that care, there is no safe, no mini-fridge, and no in-room kettle. There are also no wardrobes/chests to put your things in, just an open rail with hangers. My main reservation concerned noise. The Raval is a lively neighbourhood, with its fair share of homeless people, alcoholics, and junkies. (Forgive me for being blunt.) Sometimes it seemed they were all determined to spend all night every night fighting, smashing bottles, screaming and generally having a great time on the street outside the hotel. If you can get a room that doesn't face the street, OK. But I didn't get much sleep. One other point, if you're sensitive to scents in cleaning products, you don't want to stay here. It didn't bother me, but the room had a very strong smell from the cleaning products used, and even I, who am not normally bothered by such things, felt the need to open the windows and try and get it out. The breakfast was a standard continental one -- nothing fancy but certainly enough to set you up for the day. However, service doesn't start until 07:30.

Good price, noisy location

It’s refurbished since I last stayed there. It’s cozy and nice. Rooms vary in size but hey are well kept and clean. It’s on a noisy street and gets to be noisy at night. But it’s at the heart of Barca, between las Ramblas and las Ramblas de Raval and gives you easy access to many attractions including trendy and colourful restaurants. Breakfast is really basic, but when in Barcelona you will be mostly outside your hotel room.

Cozy and central accommodation 

My husband was here for work at one of the Universities, but we tagged along for a weekend. We found the Residencia d'investigators in Barcelona to be just what we had hoped for. A comfortable, clean room with plenty of space for my husband, myself and our daughter. We all slept very well and found the beds very comfortable. A perfect place to rest in between our trips out exploring the city. Being typical English travellers abroad we found the air conditioning fantastic when we had to escape the mid afternoon heat!! Great location, easy to get to everything and friendly staff.

A lovely introduction to Barcelona

Thank you for looking after myself, my husband and my little 9-month old daughter! Beside the perfect central location and an excellent breakfast, we found a comfortable room and a nice service. Once again, thank you!!!!

If you paid their website price, you did not get your money's worth here.  I paid about $70 US per night (around 65% of their website price).  I guess that is a good rate for Barcelona, but the rooms are very small and very basic.  (Trip Advisor lists a number of pensions that look good if you search for "pensions Barcelona Gothic Quarter" that are around $50 per night with a private bath and breakfast.)  The mattress was also basic--a cheap one that was just on the verge of starting to allow me to feel the springs through the padding.  The shower stall is very small.  The WiFi worked okay, but was not speedy enough to sustain a WiFi phone call.  It's easy to hear noise through the walls and through the floors.  People come back late and night and don't seem to worry about talking loudly in the halls, playing music or the TV in their rooms, etc.  The three best points were the breakfast which was good with a nice selection of choices, the a/c system which let you set your own temperature for your room and then maintained that temperature well, and the plentiful hot water.
