The hotel was ok. Bed was really comfortable and most of the staff were great.
I didn’t care for the neighborhood and asked the desk if my car would be okay. Thy said they watched it 24 hrs a day but I woke up to mind my hubcaps stolen. Because of the area I wouldn’t recommend it.

Neighborhood is not good

This place pleasantly surprised me. The rooms are right out of colonial period and the service is fantastic. The size of the room was unbelievable for the price. The place is in a central location however I’m not too sure about the neighbourhood. I did not try their kitchen so can’t comment on the food. But it was a lovely short stay and I can’t complain. 

Gem of a Hotel

The Grand Hotel Port Elizabeth is a friendly and safe place if you are staying in Port Elizabeth.  The rooms are a little basic, but well restored, and you can see what the owners are trying to do (restore an historic old hotel to its former greatness).  

You won't find the rooms over-burdened with luxuries, but it is clean, safe, functional, and with a good, inexpensive restaurant on site.  The owners/managers are lovely, and the staff are friendly and helpful.

The area directly outside isn't great, and that's a fact.  However if you don't need to be out after dark, or if you have a car to come and go, you really don't need to worry about that.

A decent inexpensive hotel for a short stay in PE.

In the 1970's when PE was a thriving and pleasant city, we lived within walking distance of this nice old pub. A bustling colonial hotel similar to the King Edward on the opposite corner, we loved spending time in both hotels-they really were great places to go and meet friends. But times have changed, and this wonderful historic centre of Port Elizabeth has succumbed to post 1994 progress, and it's sad to see. Our recent visit however was encouraging as the Grand has been cleaned up and it's well worth a visit and a stay.

I am glad i discovered this little gem of a hotel in Port Elizabeth. I was sceptical at first because of the low price so the first time a booked one night and o boy i was pleasantly surprised. I just finished my fourth stay during the last 12 months and this place deserve this review as all four stays has not only been amazing it was perfect the staff are so friendly and actually take a moment to speak to you. . The rooms are clean & big. The hotel itself is in dodgy area but the guest itself are up market & not vulgar or loud people.  A Uber from the front door and if use this place as a place to sleep over than its perfect no frills accom with affordable breakfast & meals available.
