Student dormitory, rooms being rented in summer. Cute rooms, with bathroom, small kitchen and balcony. Friendly staff. 24 h reception. Parking available. And it is in the center of Portorose, across the road and you are at the sea! We are returning each year / each few years.

Nice, budget friendly

We spent 5 days in hostel and found it really nice. We will come back, it's more then worth the money. 

Of course there are pros and cons. Pros are location, nice sea view from balcony, free parking and nice beaches nearby. Cons is AC was diretcly above the bed, so during the night, we had to turn it off and it was too warm. 


Worth the money, we will come back 

It's not a hotel it is a hostel. Rather good value for the money, the price are the cheapest in the area (53,5€) , the rooms are simple. There is a small kitchen in every room, bathroom isn't the cleanest, you have a refrigerator in the room.  Don't expect high standards. The booking was very easy, I just written an e-mail. The staff was friendly, always smiling. The location is OK, 15 minutes walk from the center of Portoroz. The hotel and the sea are only separated by the main road, here you can find  a public beach with lot of trees where you can stay in shade. Don't pay for the breakfast, it is below average, you can eat in Piran or Portoroz by spending in addition a few euros.

Hostel

Well, it's not a luxury hotel but it's a perfect student hostel. It looked like on the pictures! The room was simple, modern and clean. There was a small kitchen, free wifi and A/C. There was no TV, but it's no problem at all. Bathroom was not perfectly clean, but it was OK.
The students were the receptionists. They were very helpful and flexible. They informed us about where to find things and they even could give me a hair dryer. :)
There's a small free beach with grass in front of the hostel if you cross the main road. Here you have to bring your own chair or mat and there's only a mobile toilet. But if you walk appr. 5-10 minutes down on the main road you will find the public beach where you can hire deck chairs with umbrellas, you can use the toilet, and there are bars/restaurants around. 
I would recommend this hostel to anybody who needs accommodation of an acceptable quality at a reasonable price in a very good location!

Student hostel of high standard

I just spent 4 nights in the Korotan Hotel and I have to say that our stay was perfect for a short trip to the sea. The booking was very easy. I just had to write an e-mail (although booking.com didn't show any free rooms) with my name and phone number.

The hotel itself usually is a student resort, so you shouldn't expect high standard (which I didnt'). Yeah, some things arent perfectly clean or brand new, but if you're out in the sun all day you really don't (and shouldn't) care about that. But every room has air condition and a balcony...you don't get that very often. Especially the location is great. The hotel and the sea are only sperated by the main road. It's a public beach with loads of trees, where you can spend even the hottest days.

The price is absolutely fair and by far the cheapest that close to the sea. Well yeah, the hotel isn't for princesses who can't even hold a shower head in their hand (see review below), but it's perfect for a young person with average standards that wants to enjoy some high standard days at the beach. ;)

Perfect for young people.

We chose the Korotan mainly due to the price that was rather low, compared to other hotels in the area (although still not cheap), and because of the beautiful pictures on their website. The photos show what seems to be a new, colorfully decorated room. Frankly, the pictures had absolutely nothing to do with the room we stayed in. Our room was, although spotlessly clean, old and worn down (and not decorated at all). The two single beds had a different height, the sink was stopped up, the showerhead couldn´t be attached to the wall, but you had to hold it up with one hand while showering. The door of the freezer compartment came loose when we tried to open it, it was extremely loud during the night, partly because people were screaming around (which isn´t the management´s fault), partly because the doors are badly soundproofed (which kinda is). The free internet in the lobby was excruciatingly slow and didn´t work in our room at all, our toilet would (at times) not stop running after flushing, which was driving me crazy, especially at night. On the plus-side, all the rooms have balconies or access to a garden and A/C (quiet and worked very well). As to the location - the Korotan is close to the sea and a 20 min-walk away from the town center, which is ok. Breakfast wasn´t included, but could be bought for 3,5€ per person and was good. We decided to leave a day early (not because the hotel was so bad, just because we´d had enough of lying on the beach), and although we told them only the night before we were going to leave early, we didn´t have to pay for the night we had already booked, which was very nice. The staff are all very friendly, too. I really think the hotel is not too bad - I just don´t think it´s ok to use pictures for advertising that maybe two of the rooms actually look like, and I also think that for what you actually get, the Korotan is highly overpriced. 53,5€ per night (excluding breakfast and tourist taxes) is just too expensive for an old room in desperate need of repairs.
