We came to Crit to visit the church next door which is managed by one of the owners of this hotel restaurant.
After viewing the church we asked for advice on where to eat and he walked us here - and I'm glad he did.
I had a Moldovan traditional soup and my partner had ribs and roast veg.
Both were delicious and reasonably priced: as well as them accepting card which makes life easier.
The restaurant is in an arched cavern and is so atmospheric.
It was all completely renovated 10 years ago while keeping in mind the traditional features and is stunning.

The staff all speak great English and are so friendly.
Everything is clean, modern, friendly, tasty - cant complain.
Worth a visit!

Lovely friendly staff, tasty food & Unique Venue

We have eaten yesterday and the food was terrible. Also the food was very expensive, but still the location looks nice. If I were you, I would choose another restaurant in the zone or go to sighisoara

Terrible food

Wonderfully located, Casa Kraus is a great place for a 2 or 3 night stay, while you can visit around.  As you open the gate, a marvelous view opens before your eyes. Newly renovated, beautiful rustic rooms, organic breakfast.

Excellent stay at Casa Kraus

We had 3 bad experiences with Casa Kraus. First one in July when they cancelled my reservation made in April but they made us a favor because we found the best house and the the most friendly people- Casa Elena! The second one when we wanted to have a glass of wine when we arrived in Crit. The stuff was rude, unfriendly, not willing to create a nice atmosphere for guests. And the last one (because we thought that everyone deserves another chance) today when we waited 25 min for 1 flat white, 1 caffe latte. And on top of all, the lemonade was 14 lei in menu and they charged us 15 lei. 1 lei is not the end of the world but the gesture is indescribable! The owner Herr Schmidt, better keep your business with autos than creating a new one and not taking care of it!

Poor service with a nice view

A place worth visiting. It has a spectacular view of the valley . I wish I had the opportunity to stay more. 

The place looks very authentic and in the same time has all the modern facilities needed. 

Anyhow a place with a view .

Awesome view

Just spent 3 days here for my son’s wedding. Beautiful location with amazing staff, so friendly and helpful. The bedrooms were spacious and very clean, the food was traditional and very tasty. Great place to chill out and relax

Wedding in Transylvania

Just a short stop in my way, this place was a great surprise! Everything looks very beautiful there! The lunch was quite what I expected: the local way of cooking with fresh ingredients. Also, the hospitality is a strong point of the location.

Tasty stop

A special place for peace and relaxation,  with great food and very comfortable rooms.  The place is full of history, you just have to ask Sergiu or Mr. Iulius and you will find the stories of the villagers, the history of the fortified church or some recommendations for home made goodies. Take a bike and search the nearest villages.

This awesome place takes you  back in time

Casa Kraus is a beautiful property in quiet Crit, a village near the more famous Viscri and close to the also more famous Sighisoara. They have a large mansion with the restaurant and part of the rooms and another little house, more like a duplex, in its garden. We stayed in the latter.
The house is bit fairy-tale like, it has a wood stove and the decor is based on wood and stone. Comfort-wise,  they have everything you need, including robes and slippers. 
We had breakfast and dinner in the wine cellar space, which was nice but bit dark, I admit I would have liked a place with bit more light. During the day though, when it was sunny, it was a joy to sit on the terrace and look at the garden and the surrounding hills.
Bonus points are given for letting us bring our dog :) - but that's only possible as long as you stay in the little house.
We loved it, would be happy to return again.

Peace and beautiful nature

My feelings about this place are mixed. In the rating I can only choose between "Average" and "Very Good",  "OK" is what I would give. 

True, it is a really beautiful house with a beautiful garden in a beautiful location with wonderful people but honestly, in my opinion it misses the fine tuning. 

Next to the "must see" fortified church, reachable over an unpaved road we arrived in the afternoon for a 2 nights stay. We were greeted friendly on arrival and parked the car on the parking lot inside the hotel surroundings. Be aware that from the parking lot to the hotel you must cross the garden and use some stairs. After a short wait we were escorted to the room The room consisted of a bathroom and a bedroom with a nice wooden floor and was decorated with old furniture. I think a chair or two would add value to the room. The bathroom was dark, as it did not have a window, the lighting is not very bright. Later we found that The shower was missing a shower caddy, we had to put the provided shower gel and shampoo on the floor. No hooks in the bathroom or in the bedroom makes storing a bit difficult. 

Breakfast was included in the room rate and it is probably sufficient for most people. However, although the quality of the food is good, there is not much variety, at least not such a variety one often sees in other hotels in the same price range. We had dinner the first night and the food and service was excellent. The cook is very flexible and will try to accommodate all needs. 

From a previous rating I can see a complaint because of the busy road in front of the house. Yes, although it is far away the noise reaches the house. If you are one of those who has a light sleep, make sure to ask for a room not facing the road.

Despite the minor discomfort, I can still recommend casa Kraus for a short stay as it is a hidden gem and the people working there are wonderful, trying to make your stay as good as possible. If you are considering to visit Transylvania make sure you stop at Casa Kraus as there are not many places like this in Romania.
