Coming in to Curral da Nora was a kind of a bet. 
We always expect good things, considering the region we opted for, the north of Alentejo, and also after the first few booking phone calls. But what we received from this place, from Verónique, José and Idaline, was far above what we were hoping to get.
It's about the garden, vast and rich, it's the nice swiming pool, it's the benefit of being at 10 km from Spain, 5 km to Castelo de Vide, and about the same to Marvão. 
But it is mostly about the quiteness, the intense green, the beauty of the surrounding hills, the continuous care, the commitment, the nice products available for breakfast.
Sure there are improvements to implement: the (lack) of connectivity out of the main building, a certain degree of darkness in some of the facilities, to name only the most important ones.
But, overall, Quinta Curral da Nora is one real fine offer for a weekend time off, or for a short period of vacations, like I just did there.

Far above the expectations

On arriving the owner, Veronica, suggested we stay in the ‘main’ house rather that the studio we had booked online as the weather forecast was wet and windy! 
There were 4 of us - 2 adults,  children (12 and 10).

She took us upstairs and presented us with two huge rooms! We were happy to take just one but she insisted we take the two and ‘spread out’!

We were the only guest for the evening and this place was a highlight of our 5 week trip.

One room had a double and 2 single beds, the other room had a 4 poster bed and a single bed. Both rooms were tastefully decorated, had a TV and the bathrooms were huge!

Rooms were spotlessly clean.

The downstairs / public area is also well decorated and has a foozball and billiard table. There is a pool for summer use and a small playground for young children.

Breakfast was delicious - warm fresh bread straight from the bakery (my daughters are still talking about it a month later!), cheeses, ham, yoghurts and pasta de natas (Portuguese custard tarts - delicious).

Free wifi is available downstairs in the public area however if it is windy it may not work! 

Veronica is very attentive (but not over bearing)  and very helpful with local information.  

It is a short 5km drive (uphill) to the gorgeous town of Marvao - where you can explore the castle and cobblestone streets. A thick fog hung over the town when we arrived making it quite spooking but once it lifted the view was inspiring. It was very quiet while we were there making the roads navigable however in peak season this could be tricky!

We wish we could’ve stayed longer than one night at Quinta Curral da Nora!

Loved it!

Familial quinta in the area. We had nice rooms, although a bit dated, especially the bathrooms. Fresh water was available in the room when we arrived (39°C).  The big garden was absolutely a plus , we had a chill day and it was no problem to picknick in the garden and enjoy the pool accomodations. The breakfast was well prepared with fresh juice and a nice chat with Véronique, the landlady. The restaurant at the riverside is very good.
