Fossheim Hotel Hemsedal

We stayed at this lovely hotel for 5 nights in Feb 2017. 

Comfortable and clean rooms (we had a family room). 

Delicious breakfast (the children loved the Norwegian waffles and I loved the eggs, roll mops, cold meats, cheeses). 

Wonderful communal areas - 2 pool tables in one large zone, roaring open fire and comfy sofas in a separate zone. 

Sauna - oh yes. 

Martin was a most kind, helpful and charming host. 

6 mins drive from the skiing. 

Plenty of free parking at hotel. 

2 mins walk from supermarket. 

We will come back again as this hotel hits all the right notes.

Wonderful, fantastic

We got a room (304, specifically) which was quite shabby and the walls so thin that we could hear every word from the neighbour's TV and thus couldn't sleep. We contacted the reception and got another room (at 11:30PM!), so that was very friendly. But we found out later that the other room was a higher price class, so YES we were very happy, but NO we wouldn't book this hotel again and end up in the same situation.

Very friendly staff, shabby room, NO sound insulation

Lovely views across valley. 
They gave us a disabled room which we did not need which meant the toilet was way too high!
2 single beds joined together but were very seperate. So not romantic. 
And windows up the top not curtained which meant it never got dark in the room. 
Also no tea making in the room and no fridge. There is a free mineral museum near by which is nice to go to. 
And breakfast was satisfactory. 

Historic hotel

Fossheim hotel is not what I would call a proper hotel, but it's rather a building offering several rooms, but no hospitality service (no cleaning, no breakfast, etc.).

However, there is a common area equipped with a fully equipped kitchen, a big living room & a recreational room that are quite enjoyable.

Though, I must say I have been really offended when the Manager/Owner of the place "greeted" my partner & I by a really rude "You are sleeping on a sofa. Are you even staying here ? You cannot sleep here." while we were just enjoying a relaxing time together in the common area before heading back to our room. 
First thing, it would have been nice to be more polite. Then, given the room key that was displayed on the table in front of us, Mister could have guessed that we were hotel's guests, instead of suspiciously looking at us like we were not welcome here.

Other minus point : we have been informed that the electric sockets on the outside of the building have been turned off by the owner who was tired of people plugging their electric cars on. 
Having ourselves an electric car & in need to plug it in to get some juice in order to hit the road after check-out, we just want to wave a big MINUS point for this attitude.

Last thing is that there is absolutely NO sound insulation in the rooms, so you can hear everything from people walking in the lobby to babies crying and neighbors having intimate time.

Rustic charm without hospitality service

I avoid writing bad reviews. This is probably the first one.
Booked this hotel for one night stay while driving through Norway. Arrived at 3:30 pm to the empty place with the phone # printed on the front desk to call for contact. Unfortunately our phones didn't work in Norway. Went to nearby restaurant to ask them to do a call for us. Turned out the number was outside of Norway in Slovakia. It belongs to one of the hotel workers.
After some waiting we finally got the room key. We booked deluxe room which not only had an empty shampoo bottle in the shower but also didn't  have a shower rug or even a plastic cup . At checkin we were advised to come to breakfast  after the large tourist group leaves. We did as instructed to find all tables dirty and sticky, a few pieces of cold cuts clearly left after the group and again no life soul in attendance. Our checkout was predictable - we just added our key to the pile of other keys on the counter and left without any receipt or human contact.
Hotel itself could probably get 3 points instead of one if it only had any resemblance of the service.
