Greatwood Hotel

The Greatwood Hotel in Owerri is on the Port Harcourt Road, a distance from downtown and quite far from the airport. On the other hand, the staff is excellent, the rooms are comfortable, the pool area is pleasant and the restaurant is OK. We were greeted on arrival, and even though our reservation was not clear, they quickly gave us rooms. As our trip was extended day by day, they easily extended our stay and made us welcome. We were on business, and the business center helped with printing and other items. The rooms are not large - just a dresser, a desk and a large bed with pathways around - but, the bed was comfortable. The bathroom is African style with a shower open to the rest of the bathroom and an "instant" water heater in the room. Everything worked fine, and the water pressure was good. The hotel generator came on quickly whenever power went out. The pool area was the highlight of the hotel. It was often busy for drinks, pool, TV watching and groups working together. Nobody swimming, though... The restaurant was the weakest point of the hotel. They are organized principally for room service. We were the only ones eating in the restaurant at breakfast or dinner. While the food was fine, the service was very slow at all meals. So, do I recommend the hotel? Yes - so long as you go out to local restaurants for your meals.
