I stayed here with my whole family on a special trip to Nepal. This was going to be the luxury part of our holiday. Compared to what one normally pays in Nepal this hotel was highly overpriced for what you get, and the welcome and general show of (or rather lack of!) hospitality was decidedly un-Nepali. On arrival there were hardly any staff and we were the only guests. We were met in the nearest town where they insisted we get out of our comfortable van and transfer 9 of us plus luggage to an open jeep, as it was only a few minutes down the road. There were already two people plus grocery shopping in the jeep. It was the most terrifying journey which took 40minutes over rough roads at speeds that were unsafe when standing up in the back of a jeep holding ones own luggage! My sister was literally screaming from fear in the corners. The hotel was dirty and did not get cleaned in the two nights we stayed. The sinks were practically falling off the walls- so much so you were afraid they would damage you if you even touched them and much of the infrastructure was crumbling. The towels smellt awful. The air conditioning didn't work. We requested to eat early because of the children, having travelled several hours to get there. We had to wait three hours for food. Later that evening we went for a village walk, however we were practically mobbed by children and adults trying to grab our cameras or asking for handouts. The next day we had arranged to go on safari. It turned out to be a jeep safari in the same jeep we had arrived in the day before. We spoke to the manager saying we wanted to go for half a day, but they ended up taking us for a whole day (not much you can do about it when you're in the middle of the jungle with no other means of transport!) the driver drove so fast that even if we saw an animal in the distance it had run off by the time we would have got near enough to actually see it or even photograph it. They drove us to several places -eg saying it is a rhino or crocodile watering hole and when we got there and there were no animals said it was the wrong time of day to see those animals. The drive in the jeep was so awful several of us had bruised and red raw bottoms that evening and for several days afterwards. On arrival back at the hotel we found toads and other creatures in our bathrooms. Needless to say we curtailed our stay and arranged for our own driver to get us out of there the next morning. The place is very isolated and you are reliant on your own transport to get in or out. The manager could not be reasoned with, despite the fact that my mum speaks Nepali- thank goodness she does as none of the staff spoke any other language, or only a few words of broken English. In an otherwise amazing trip, the stay at kingfisher "resort" was highly disappointing.
