De' Native Guest House - Hostel

The most at home we have felt on this trip, it is such a welcoming place. The people are amazing, and the dogs are adorable. A great place to chill, and hike from. At night we made bonfires, and it was so much fun.

I’m really happy I stayed here! The guesthouse is quite interesting and picturesque, and the owners make you feel at home and as part of the family. There is a bonfire at night, really good tips for Indian food and 6 dogs that will keep you company and protect you. If you want a beautiful and quiet place to rest and chill, this is perfect!

A big thank you for Krish, his wife and the volunteers at the Native Guesthouse. They made our stay not great but they made it above and beyond!! We wanted to stay 2 nights, but due to the location, just out of town (15min walk), and the good care of the staff we decided to stay 2 more nights. 

As a cat person I didn't know if it would work out with me and the dogs walking around. But these dogs are the sweetest and we became friends.

We slept in a bamboo cabin which gave us a real holiday feeling. It's clean and all basic facilities are in these cabins. The showers are nice and hot. 

Every night there is a bonfire where you can sit and relax. 

The staff is well aware of the things to do in the Cameron Highlands and gave us an honest advice about the trails and excursions. 

During a hike my girlfriend sprained her ankle so we went back to the Guesthouse. The volunteers gave us some ice to cool it immediately. Unfortunately it didn't get better and we wanted te see a doctor. The owner Krish and his wife searched for a clinic or hospital to go to that was open on a Sunday. Eventually they brought us to the hospital and waited 2 hours with us in the hospital till we were done. It's incredibly sweet what they did for us. Big compliments for their care and hospitality! 

We definitely recommend staying at de native guest house if you are visiting Cameron Highlands! 


Great people running the place. Very kind, interesting and social. The fireplace and the bar beside it is great. Very atmospheric, cheap prices for beer. The owner and his family were very helpful in answering questions we've had. The rooms are clean and good. Thank you Krish for the great accommodation, I will be recommending this place to anyone going to Cameroon Highlands. Surprisingly this accommodation was the highlight and best part of my Cameroon Highlands trip.

The hosts, the dogs, and the place radiate amazing positive energy! Thank you Kris for creating a beautiful and heartwarming place. 
Also the location is spot on. It is tucked away in the forest, yet very close to the center.

Thank you Krish! You made my stay most memorable. He knows the area like no other and tells u a story or two around the bonfire and he took us on tour through the rainforest too. The location is great and an incredible bargain. Best experience! 

Unexpectedly ended up spending most of my time in the Cameron Highlands at De’Native although I had originally booked another place nearby. The guesthouse is pretty no frills but it’s comfortable and homely which makes it’s charm. If you’re a dog person you’ll love the five (yes, FIVE!) dogs that lounge around in the sun outside and are more than happy to come up for pets and cuddles. Kris the owner was so incredibly welcoming and cooked delicious Malaysian and Indian food outside every night for everyone who was around and I even got to help out in the night I stayed which was a great experience. I had some great conversations with Kris about cooking, Malaysian Indian culture and Hinduism and I felt like I wouldn’t have had such an experience staying anywhere else. I highly recommend staying here if you’re planning on coming to Tanah Rata. 

Stayed here for the second time and had an amazing time again. Exploring the beautiful highlands with the scooter or hiking the trails during the day and hanging out in the evening with the locals, drinking some beers, singing karaoke and doing bbq together.

We stayed here for two nights. The facilities themselves are great, it's also close to town while still being quiet. If you like animals, there are six dogs on the property

The one drawback was the lack of staffing organisation, no-one at the hostel when we arrived to check in. We saw the manager only once during our stay. There were volunteers onsite but it wasn't made clear they were working there till the second night. You would assume they were guests

The second night we had a campfire with the volunteers which was really enjoyable. General advice would be the improve the experience by either having a dedicated member of staff on site or by making it clear that the volunteers are working there so guests can discuss queries with them
