Came with friends, 14 pax, couples and singles. We had twin rooms, doubles and dorms. 

The beds were clean and comfortable. They provided bottom sheets and pillows but not top sheets or pillows. 

The bathrooms are a little oddly arranged but there were hot showers and sit down toilets.

Breakfast was provided and there was free flow tea and coffee. There is wifi, a small kitchenette, some chairs and tables. Enough space for us to have a lecture.

Good for Groups

The rooms are really, comfortable beds and pillows. The bathrooms are also very clean. Close to the supermarket and to the street market. They offer a simple breakfast with tea, coffee and some snacks. Recommended! 

Really comfortable room

The perfect place to stay when you're in Lahad Datu - extemely fair prices, very clean rooms, showers & toilets, a nice view over the Darvel Bay and a good Location in general - within a few minutes you can reach a lot of stores, restaurants, banks, the small airport and the bus stations by foot. 
Furthermore: very friendly & helpful staff, and they organize some interesting tours.

Excellent!

This trip was one I've thought of for a very long time.  I'm not sure if it's the idea of walking through rainforest and hearing the sounds of birds, gibbons and insects or the fact that I would get to see the 'man of the forest'.  Really I feel very fortunate to be writing this from the second lodge of my stay but now I write about Tabin.
After a 1.5 hour off-road drive from the nearest airport pickup at Lahad Datu we arrived and were greeted by our guide, Esrail.  Esrail was the perfect guide you could ever hope for.  As well as being warm and friendly, his knowledge of animal calls, trees, primates, birds was comprehensive.  We felt comfortable in his capable hands as he guided us through the activities of early morning walks, evening walks and safaris as well as tours to the mud 'volcano', the pharmacy where the animals go to get their trace minerals from.
The amount you see is a mixture of fortune, radios and an expert guide.  Esrail had been a guide for more than a decade and he went about calmly explaining the same answers to questions he will have been answering a thousand times or more.  We were fortunate to see a lot of animal life especially on the night safaris, so you will need a good set of binoculars and ideally a 400mm camera if you want those long shots to look impressive.
The accommodation at Tabin was comfortable and nice enough of 3 star European rating.  The food was the ample quantity you would want after hiking and trekking for a few hours and was still tasty.  There is a bar and small gift shop for mozzy killer and power adaptors.  The bar has a modest selection and really could do with a few select spirits in addition to the Tiger beer cans and the selection of 3 wines.  No diet cans appear to be available but this wasn't the biggest issue when trekking.
Overall I'd ask yourself a question before booking.  If you want to have a small, welcoming resort where you can enjoy yourself and immerse into the rainforest then go here.  If you want to guarantee seeing the Orangutan etc, then you should visit the orphanage at Sandakan and maybe even the Borneo Rainforest Lodge where you have a greater chance. 
For us Tabin needs a little spruce and to pitch itself for the type of Tourist it wants.  There doesn't seem to be an overall visible manager in charge, with the guides organizing your days for you.  Not a problem but who brings all the elements together?  For us Esrail was the main guy, others may not have been so lucky.  

The guys and girls who work there get very little wage for their efforts and they are always very friendly and helpful, so I definitely loved going there and felt more of sharing a family home than the 5 star Borneo Rainforest Lodge where I feel like a guest.

Just a few things to improve on and if the Ministry of Tourism was to improve the road and the route in through Oil Palm Forest and through the various gates and communities it may help improve first impressions. 
First on my bucket list completed, onto the next.

Wifi is in the lobby and 1st floor rooms close to it. First stay, my room was on the 2nd floor near the common area/kitchen with a balcony. Second stay, my room was on the 1st floor with wifi but no balcony.
Both had their own bathrooms. No TV but A/C in both rooms. Paid 67 ringitt ~ $14 USD. Great value budget hostel/hotel.
