Nozawa is a great destination and perfect place to get away for the weekend if you are on a business trip, just about 2hrs from Tokyo.

This Schneider has a really challenging cancellation policy and requires you to pay up front, the staff is not flexible. 

I recommend going to Nozawa but don’t stay at Schneider.

Nozawa is great, this hotel not flexible

Awesome little ski in and ski out hotel with five star services and dining. Particularly thanks to the first desk/reception staff - super helpful and caring. Love your work! The food is so nice, definitely the highlight of our trip!

Love their staff and chefs 

We spent three nights here in a Japanese style room with comfortable bed and quite spacious. We actually didn't realise that the room didn't come with an en-suite and but soon got used to that. What makes the Schneider special is the staff who are absolutely wonderful. A special mention for Dredd, Izzy, Billy and a Japanese lady (who's name we forgot to ask) on reception who were sooo friendly and helpful. They really made it a fun stay for us. The facilities are 2-3 star I would say, but the location on the slopes is really brilliant when you consider the long walk/travelator up to the Hikaji gondola from the village. We also want to say a big thank you to the staff at the on-site ski-equipment place. The ski equipment we hired was new and clean and they were so friendly and helpful. They even repaired my girlfriends walking boot after the heel came loose. Breakfast is basic but tasty in the mornings and they do a decent poached egg. We also tried the pizza in the onsite restaurant/bar which was good.

Fantastic location and wonderful staff

Our family of four including two adult children (20yrs) had a week at the Schneider. We had a Japanese room with a bunk and shared showers and bathrooms. We were slightly apprehensive. To begin with it was only three of us, but then our daughter joined in and there were no larger rooms left. In any event, it worked a treat and sharing bathroom facilities was painless. (There is a lovely onsite onsen, seldom used except by us. We always walked straight into a shower and the shower rooms were also lovely - in case you were worried - a giant step up from hostel bathroom/showers.) There was certainly no excess room in the bunkroom, but it wasn't an issue as we were rarely in it. The beds were all excellent. A pleasant surprise was the restaurant. The food was really good and we ate there more times than we were expecting. Thanks to the chef. There was also a bar for casual drinks and cards. Possibly one of the reasons we were not in our room much. The ski in/ski out factor was also much appreciated. I think we would find in hard to stay down in the village now, notwithstanding the slight inconvenience of booking the bus for return in the evenings. I should also mention the lovely staff. Thank you Josie and all others. The hotel has a particularly nice vibe due to its kind and efficient staff.  We were appreciative of all.

Perfect Lodge for a Family Stay (Adult children included)

Thanks so much for another fantastic stay over Dec/Jan. This was out 5th season staying with you guys. We stayed in the bunk rooms this time. They totally served the purpose, a good nights sleep. The snow came just in time. On the last days we were able to ski in and ski out. Which is the primary reason we stay here. And the little chairs that take you to town started and that makes everything easy. Love sitting at the bar at the end of the day with our friends around the fire watching the last of the people on the snow come in. Till next year

We call it home!

We love, love loved this place! I can’t recommend the Schneider highly enough for it’s fabulous on piste location, it’s wonderful friendly helpful staff, it’s huge family rooms, great food, cold beers, children’s game area, on site ski hire... The list goes on. Special mention to Col the hotel ski instructor who took Mr 6 and Mr 7 from tentative snow ploughs on the baby slope to bombing down the snow park and fearless tackling red run in the space of 3 days. Just wow! I am counting the days until we can come back :-D

Best skiing holiday ever!

I’d like to thank Schneider hotel for there hospitality and a special note to Nick and Ed who made us feel so welcome. Can’t wait to come back again, there hospitality and friendliness made is welcoming and a great experience. Love yas

Blast

We stayed at the Schneider in the second half of February 2019. We had a really nice stay and we found the staff very friendly and welcoming. The hotel is located right on the snow and easy to ski back to at the end of the day for adults and kids alike. It's also very close to the Hikage area with access to one of the gondolas, several ski lifts and the excellent (and cheap!) childcare facility.

We stayed in a room with a private bathroom and the room was clean, tidy and very adequate for a family of four. The view from the window was great and we saw a number of stunning sunsets. The room also had a view of the two black runs directly next to the hotel. Although it should be noted that 90% of the time these black runs and the associated lift were closed off for the ski race club so it was close to impossible to actually ski these runs.

The breakfast was excellent. I read a few negative reports on trip advisor about the lack of replenishment of the food during breakfast - but generally we found no problem at all with this. The coffee was also great - several of the guys/girls working at the hotel really know their stuff when it comes to coffee making which was brilliant. Note that espresso coffee costs 450 yen (ie isn't free with the breakfast) but it's a price worth paying for a great coffee with a big day of skiing ahead of you.

Getting to and from the village was really not that hard - as alluded to in some other reviews. We have a 5 year old and a 2 year old and had no problem. We used the moving walkway down to town if we left early enough and arranged a shuttle back with the hotel for our return. Just needs a little pre-planning. Staff were always very friendly, accomodating and keen to make this work.

We rented kit for the first day whilst we waited for black cat to deliver our ski gear. The rental kit at the Schneider was up to date and in good condition with friendly service. The drying room was very good and there was plenty of space for ski gear storage.

The only real negatives were the very average snow and the thin walls in the rooms. We stayed for 11 days and didn't get any new snow of note, just a few very light flurries. We did however get several days of rain and otherwise fairly nice sunny weather. We stayed in Madarao just down the road in late February the year before and also copped a lot of rain and no snow. So whilst you can of course sometimes score great conditions in the second half of February in this area it's worth noting that it's not uncommon to cop a lot of rain as well. The snow was very wet, sticky and slushy which was great for the kids but not so much for the adults. Not the hotel's fault of course, but your travel dates are a consideration if you are looking for good snow - so worth noting! I should point out that there was plenty of snow on the ground and the hotel was still comfortably ski-in ski-out, it was just boot deep slush by lunchtime!

The only other minor gripe was the walls are very thin between the bedrooms. This generally wasn't an issue but is highly dependent upon who you get in the room next to you. Fairly easy to hear the conversations going on next door!

Generally though we thought this was a terrific hotel with great staff and an awesome location. We would definitely consider returning to the hotel again, but we'd travel before mid-February based on the experience of our last two holidays in this part of Japan.

Great location, friendly staff, pick your time of year though

If you are looking to soak up as much Japan snow as you possibly can then look no further then The Schneider Hotel! The food they have there in the restaurant and the bar is also amazing, especially the pizzas! The staff are all amazing! Especially Nick and Natalie who both went out of the way to make sure our stay was perfect!

Best ski in ski out location ever!

We loved our stay here, the staff were amazing. We are already planning our return trip. Food at the restaurant was great, they catered for gluten free which we were so grateful for and our kids loved it too. Daily breakfast was fabulous, ski rentals also well priced and so convenient. Highly recommend staying here if you can!
