Hotel has its rustic charm and is near boat ride. It is also walkable distance to the kegon fall.

A nice hotel close to the lake. Nice room, good service, nice food.

Nice hotel , good service

Hotel itself is old but they're trying to be nice as much as they can. Comfortable and great location.

Very good location. We can see a beautiful view of chuzenji lake from our room. The building, room, hot spring bath(onsen) and facilities are old but clean enough. Dinner and breakfast are traditional japanese style and they are delicious. The hotel is organized by a nice elderly couple. Price is reasonable. 

Good location and nice to stay

Very good location, good food and nice room.Next to the famous fried pork restaurant, just opposite to the boat yard and thus is just next to the 'boat yard' bus stop. 15Mins walk to the famous waterfall.Food is very tasty, the staff serve well too.Room is big and tidy. My room has a lake view but there is a triangular thing outside the windows that blocked 1/3 of the view.

The most lovely stay in Japan. Love their meals so much! Not forget the friendly staff and hot spring bath. Will come back in future.

Most lovely stay in Japan

We booked a couple nights at Nikko Sansui, and each day the view from our room over the lake took my breath away. We opted for the breakfast/dinner package and were NOT disappointed! Definitely traditional Japanese style food, not for the picky eater!

The building itself is a tad worn with age, but the room itself was clean, well-kept. The futons were comfortable, food was delicious and the people were friendly (even with the language barrier). Far enough from the bus terminal that its peaceful, but not far enough to be a pain in the butt to haul luggage.

While this was the most expensive place out of six that we stayed at during our travels, it was well worth it.

Beautiful view, great way to live like a local

Great local traditional dishes, nice hot spring bath, comfortable bed, excellent lake view, tourist friendly. No computer, no wifi, just relax. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel, so it is very convenience if you hold a nikko discount pass, you could either go deeper inside, or just head back to the main train stations to finish your trip.

if you are looking for a pure japanese style stay

Great service. Great experience of traditional Japanese living. Definitely book their dinner and breakfast because they are delicious. (Also, it's hard to find a place to eat at early morning and dinner time nearby the lake!) Comfortable hot spring, great lake view from the room. A minor disadvantage was, the room we lived in was without a private bathroom.

Great experiences of tradition Japanese living!

My husband and I chose this hotel as we had limited options when visiting Nikko.  When checking in I will say the people who were working at the hotel were very nice, but when we got in the room:

It was very dirty and in complete disrepair
There were literally blood stained hand prints on the wall
A collection of approximately twenty insects were collected in the overhead lighting
The hotel smelled very badly of mold

There are much better options in the area.  We actually left and paid for another room even though we had paid in advance.  That's how scary it was.
