Convenient location, just  couple minutes walk from Matsumoto station exit. Plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby, in neighborhood and station. 15-20 minutes walk to Matsumoto Castle.
Staff was welcoming and friendly, capable enough in English without reticence.
Room was typical Japanese business hotel -- even a bit smaller (at least with our double bed); not much floor space or space for bags/luggage. 
Although well-appointed, bathroom also on small side -- watch your elbows in the shower! No counter or much space for your bath toiletries.

Convenient location, friendly staff, good value

Good location right near the station and a short walk away from interesting things. Hotel was a bit dated but still functional. Small room, but that's to be expected in Japan and especially for the price.

Good location, solid hotel

Within 3-5 mins walk to Matsumoto JR station. Hotel and room is dated slightly old, but not a deal-breaker. Extremely slow wifi. Other than that, great for its price and location.

Had a fantastic experience at this hotel. The room was very clean, comfortable and great value. The staff were absolutely lovely. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and helped us with anything we needed. They are also proficient in English language. Highly recommended.

Lovely accommodation, with beautiful kind and helpful staff.

Very convenient and clean. Rooms are traditional Japanese space. Blanket feels a bit old. traditional Japanese bath on top floor is very pleasant.

We drove and need the staff to guide us to the car park which is a distance away. The young man was very helpful and can speak English. We found our room was stuffy as aircon only provides heater. The same young man that speak English came to our room and help us to open the window and taught us how to open and close the window so that we control the cool air circulation. Thumbs up for the service. As for the sound of the train sound, the track is just behind our room. The sound was still bearable.For the first night we walk to eat Ippudo (ramen), which was very good and nearby. The hotel public bath with hot water was also very good, which is at 7 floor. Would recommend.


Convenient to get food and it is in the central

Booked a non-smoking room for 2 nights but as soon as I checked into my room, I could smell cigarette through the ventilation and despite turning heater off. As I'm slightly asthmatic and can't breathe well if cigarette smell presents, I went to the reception straight away and explained, but the manager didn't believe me. I asked him to come to my room and even though there was still strong smell of cigarette in the corridor and in the room, he denied he could smell it and was reluctant to do anything. I even asked him if other rooms on the floor were smoking rooms and he said no. Though he would not barge at first, I kept on insisting on a room change and he finally gave in. I always thought Japanese strides to provide exceptionally customer service but clearly not in this hotel coz I was treated with such mistrust and rudeness. This was by far the worst hotel experience I ever had in Japan! Luckily the air was fine after changing to a different floor, or otherwise I'd have to find a different hotel to stay and probably wouldn't get my money back as I booked directly on the hotel website.

The other thing I didn't like was that I had to hand them the room key whenever I went out. This felt like they can't trust their hotel guests enough to let them keep the keys. I can understand that if I was staying at a local's home or in the older ryokan where the room door is not always secured, but this is meant to be a hotel? I also found the room quite dusty and outdated as well. Not somewhere I would recommend or stay again.

So why didn't I rate it 1 star? That's because the breakfast staff were actually friendly and professional, much more polite than their main reception staff and also for the fact that it's located very close to the train station. 

If you are thinking about staying at this hotel, I would recommend you to compare other options before making your decision. There were a few other budget hotels nearby that's worth checking out.

Not a non-smoking room at all!

We selected this because it was  near the station, moderately priced, and most importantly it had a room for the night we needed it.  Walking into the room was a pleasant surprise.  It had more space than places that cost a good deal more.  The negatives were the window covers - blinds that we could not pull up but only adjust the angle to get more or less light.  That was a shame because there was a nice sunset visible (striped).  Windows did not open.  The climate control was not effective (or we did not use it correctly) so that we got too much warm air for good sleeping.  I would stay again but probably would look elsewhere first.  It is very handy to the train station, and they were good about keeping our luggage both before we checked in and after we checked out.  This might qualify as a budget hotel, though I have rated it mid range.  It cost half as much as most others we visited during two weeks.

Roomy but lacks sunlight and climate control

Staff are not helpful and disallowed me to get assistance from my boyfriend because he is not a "guest" at the hotel. My boyfriend lives in Japan and does not need to stay in the hotel with me. At the time when I was visiting, I just had a surgery on my right shoulder and my arm was in a sling. But the hotel staff persistently disallowed him to go upstairs with me, saying that he is not a "guest". We explained that he will not be staying, but only need 30min to help me to bring my bag up, get changed, shower etc (because it's very difficult to do things with one arm in a sling and especially so when it hurts). But the staff said no means no, he absolutely CANNOT come up to my room to help me. And said that if I need help, they will send a staff up to help me. LIKE EXCUSE ME, ARE YOU EXPECTING ME TO LET YOUR STAFF SHOWER ME?? Absolutely ridiculous. Is this a hotel or a prison?

Also, a single room is exactly the same as a semi-double room. We then said that we'll top up the money to the rate of the semi-double room. But guess what? They said a single room is a single room, you cannot add another name. (Even though there is no physical difference between a semi-double room and a double room!!!) Very unpleasant experience with the staff. Rigid, unreasonable and ridiculous.

Near JR station, walk just 2 min, staffs are very nice, everything is good, we have to go Kamikochi 2 day and can keep the luggage at the hotel for for just small bag pack to Kamikochi. Very so nice and comfortable.
