A friend and I had a wonderful stay at Hoshidekan. The building is an ancient 2 story Japanese house that has been in the family of the owner for 4 generations. The outside is stunning but the interior with it's inner garden connected by a bridge is really amazing. The hosts were so wonderful and helpful. The breakfast was really good and as we chose the Japanese option very traditional. 
If you want a real and fantastic Japanese stay I really recommend this house.

Stunning stay at Hoshidekan in Ise

The rooms at the hotel stay very true to the expectation one might have of a very old building. The road can be heard through the walls, however, it's not too bad at night, and the staff was amazing. The garden stands up to the pictures, and the building is very beautiful (just be wary of being loud at night).

Location was rather amusing honestly, it's about 12 minutes walking to Ise station, and very close to multiple restaurants and a convenience store. The building itself is very old, yet is surrounded by a very modern area. There is an excellent pizza bar down the road towards the station that serves a specialty seaweed pizza, would recommend! It is run by one guy, and he's really awesome! Look for the pieces of wood in the window.

Overall Good

My husband and I stayed at this charming hotel for two nights and found it to be an absolute oasis...the surroundings are traditional old style Japan..dark wood, a red bridge, a working gramophone, and lovely old magazine photos decorating the walls.

Our room was on the small side, but we had everything we needed. The bathrooms are located outside the rooms, but there are plenty of them so access was not an issue ( side note: the hotel was only half full and if it had been to capacity, the bathroom situation MIGHT have become a problem.)

The staff are just wonderful. I didn't catch the name of the male proprietor, but he spoke excellent English and went out of his way to make our stay comfortable. He took us all around the hotel and showed us the bamboo pipe with the water dripping through it...it makes as astonishing sound!

The hotel serves breakfast (Western or Japanese style) and it was well cooked and plentiful. There are two onsen style bathtubs and large shower rooms - perfect at the end of the day if you've been tramping all over Ise.

One of my favourite touches was the flag stand in the lobby....the owners post flags to indicate which nationality their guests are and when we checked out, the lovely man who runs the hotel called us a taxi and then stood outside waving goodbye with the Canadian flag to wish us well....what a lovely send off 

I highly recommend Hoshidekan...very well done.

Traditional, beautifully decorated and completely relaxing

Staying at Hoshidekan was a fantastic experience. As soon as you enter the building you can feel the history of it. Fully built in wood, it has a very relaxing garden at the center. 
The host speaks correct English and has maps in many languages. He is really doing everything possible to help and make your stay a wonderful experience. Having an eye for details he was putting the flag of the guests’ countries on the front desk. Room was big enough, free Wi-Fi.
Don’t expect high comfort but the experience totally compensate. Heating in the room is ok and toilets/bath was very clean.
I highly recommend to stay there if you want to experience ancient japan way of life.

Traditional place feels like ancient Japan

Avery nice guesthouse that feels old end genuine. Very clean and well kept. Rooms are very nice. Small but nice private bath. The owner is so helpful in every way. As they dont serve dinner we bought some food in a store and had it in a small living room in the middle of the house. The owner welcomed us there and put on an old grammophone with Glenn Miller etc! Breakfast is served  in the morning. Would love to come here again!

Lovely place!

Booked on line after looking at some very expensive Ise area price  Ise is so famous and popular that Ise can be very expensive to stay in . 
Booked in a tradition Japanese style sleep on the foot tatami room for three . Told my wife and brother this was all we could get on a Sunday , yen 18900 with breakfast  but told the others it was 18900 each,ha ha! 
In my 52 yrs in Japan this brought back memories of my living here in the 1960,s 
The owner was a lovely young man who was immensely proud of his 90 yrs old ryokan ,watch our the owner grabbing yr wheeled suitcase and cleaning all four wheels before allowing them on his polished floors. There's no bath or toilet in yr rooms or phones. They have good free wi fi. The toilets are down the narrow hall way ,round the corner and over a old old red bridge.Take yr wifi freely cellphone to get back.ha!ha!
Two japanese style baths down stairs ,take the left one as its a japanese cedar model . 
Big enough for you and two of yr girlfriends.
The owner is only two happy to give a map showing the near by eating/drinking places.
One street over is the river and old merchant street  houses, very interesting they are.
When I sent my japanese wife to pay the what she thought was a very stay I kept my distance to watch the reaction ,ha!ha!
Would we go back? Hell yes !
