While the Ryokan experience was all new for me, sleeping on a straw mat it was surprisingly comfortable. I knew exactly what I was been offered when I booked, as I like to experience the culture of whatever country I am visiting. Being over 50, 2 nights sleeping on the floor was probably about my limit, but I would not discredit this property in any way. very clean, friendly staff and surely everyone must stay in a Ryokan for at least one night, when visiting Japan. for the younger traveller this is the Perfect Place at the PERFECT Price.

DIFFERENT BUT EXCELLENT

When we arrived we saw that the hotel was very old as expected. The lady of the house came to greet us. It seemed that the couple owning the place lived in the back of the lobby. It was really out of season, so I think we could have been the only guests. We had booked a room with a bathroom but the lady suggested that we took a bigger room because the room with a bathroom would be a bit small for 4 people. The bigger room had no bathroom but since we seemed to be the only ones in that floor we took it. The tatami room was old but all right. The A/C was working so we weren't cold. The window opened directly to the next buildings wall, which is not uncommon in Japan. The funny thing was that we could see the corner of the window of someone living in that neighbouring building. When we took the elevator to go out the lady was in the room in the end of the corridor. She had the sliding door just a crack open and she was standing behind the door peeking out. Spooky, I thought.... The hotel is only a 5 walk from the station, in the corner of 2 quiet streets but very close to the main street with lots of restaurants and shops. We walked to the Memorial Dome. So now we get to the horror film part. The hotel is okay if you are on a budget, I don't think you are expecting much for a cheap place like this even if I have had better stays with similar sum of money. For us the location was more important. But if you are traveling out of season and you are a fan of Japanese horror films I think you could get a kick out of this place. Later at night when I had to go to the bathroom the lights were flickering. I almost expected some ghost to walk behind the corner any minute. In the morning when we took the elevator down the alarm rang so one of us had to stay up. We were laughing, this is the part where they separate us. I went out before the rest of our group and walked a few meters in the direction of some vending machines. Then I walked back and was shocked to see that where the hotel had just been there was just an empty lot. The hotel was of cource next door XD. I assume that during high season this place is much more lively, but this was our winterly experience. Hrrr.
