The check in process was a nightmare. Extra costs had not been mentioned on the Expedia website at the time of making reservations so there were issues during check in and it didn't help that the staff spoke zero english.

Nice hostel near on the way up to Hakuba Rogyu ski park.No snow on mid december when we arrived, however the host did inform us the situation. No activities during winter if no snow, a lot of empty home stay or not open, we are the only guest during our stay.Room need renovation especially no heating seat on room wc during freezing night unless you go to public toilet.Need to drive on own if stay in this hostel.

Coming here for a big group trip, it was a great value and location for skiing/snowboarding, onsening and more! We had nice western-style breakfasts for the morning and was able to relax in the common room with free wifi. It was also nice to be able to relax in the bath house after obtaining new bruises on the slopes which are a few minutes walk from the hotel.

Great for group trips!

I stayed as part of a large group, which they were great at accommodating. It's definitely not a new building, but maintained well enough and they provided plenty of kerosene heaters to keep it warm despite the lack of insulation you should come to expect if you spend long in Japan. The common areas are great, although the steps down to the second building can be treacherous and it's really annoying to have to take your shoes on and off going between the buildings. I would recommend trying to get a room in the main building with a western-style room. I didn't find the futons comfortable at all and had trouble sleeping, but I think they are considered average quality for that style of accommodation in Japan. Just doesn't work for me. It's not right on the slopes so be prepared to walk a bit or drive/get a ride to the lifts.
Overall, it was a good experience and a good deal, but I can't give it five stars. The management was exceptionally friendly, but that was the only part that exceeded expectations, so that's why I rated it this way.
