Lovely homestay with a beautiful garden and tastefully decorated rooms. Tasty home cooked meals and drinks available, all on sharing tables so nice and sociable. Able to walk to the Taj Mahal or get a short ride. Good location for seeing more of Agra as well.

Excellent homestay close to the Taj Mahal

This is an outstanding base from which to see the Taj and other attractions. Arrival feels a bit sketchy as you are going down a gully a bit off the main road/tourist track/hotel track... but behind a metal green gate a little slice of paradise awaits. The photos are largely accurate -- a three-story home with room deck and LOTS of indoor and outdoor seating to relax in, filled with greenery for shade. In March and probably into April, evening or early morning are wonderfully cool and a great place to relax with a drink. 

It's a 5 minutes walk to where you can catch an electric golf cart to the Taj East Gate (and then prepare to face an army of touts, but, welcome to India). Other monuments are further, but there is always an auto rickshaw parked right outside, and the hotel can help arrange a tourist cab for the day.

Rooms are basic but work -- beds are comfortable, linens are clean, hot water (geyser based) works just fine, and so does the AC if you need it. It's a good spot for families traveling with children (like me), because they have rooms with a big bed for adults plus multiple twin beds for children who simply should not share. Wifi is solid.

Breakfast is included and is basic but filling -- at least one Indian dish like poha or upma, pakoras or similar bready thing, fruit, tea/coffee, eggs if you want them, and then toast or crepes (which my kids loved). Dinner is available, and is a basic veg thali of two vegetables, rice, roti, dal, and yogurt, plus a bit of the local petha (pumpkin-based sweet) for after. You will NOT be hungry. Beer and soft drinks is available on-site, or buy your own from the English wine shop down the street. For picky eaters (my 9yo), they CAN do some basic Continental plain food also.

Staff are friendly and speak excellent English. I suddenly realize, writing this review, that I forgot to leave a tip in the tip box and I regret it. They deserved it.

Comfortable, clean, relaxing, good for families

"ok" given the price point, but less nice than I'd expected from the reviews.

They started poorly with the worst welcome we had in 7 properties on our tour in India. The first question was literally if I had the correct hotel, or if I should be elsewhere... The people who checked us in didn't really speak much English, so this would be less of a problem if you were Indian of course. As a result, we learned nothing about the property and felt pretty unwelcome on arrival. I suspect if we'd been booking via one of the major UK agents that uses them, we'd have had a more 'red carpet' experience..

It was cold in January, and the heater was awful. It heated the space about 2 feet in front of it, but not the rest of the room. As a result, we slept in multiple layers and spent little time in the room. This won't be an issue from spring onwards I'm sure, but I'd suggest getting different heaters and maybe offer hot water bottles. 
Whilst I think of it, perhaps put some small safes in the rooms.

Food was good in the evening, eaten "family style", which I'm not a big fan of, but there's limited space, so it makes sense in their case.

Unfortunately I was unwell as we were checking out (nothing to do with the property I don't think), but again the lack of Hindi from me, and poor English from them meant I was literally removed from the room, seconds after having my head in the toilet, and left a really poor feeling towards the property as I could see they had space on their website. We did then bump into (I think) the owners who were very kind and spoke perfect English who helped with some medicine, but it wasn't a great experience overall having left me feeling sick as a dog in the freezing cold.

I also had problems booking/confirming the booking as they didn't reply at all to my inquiry via the website, and didn't reply to any emails either. In the end, I booked via a third party (more expensive) and then used Whatsapp. Advice here: just ring them, or use whatsapp, where they were responsive and helpful.

So, to be fair, it was "alright". It's really well located for the Taj Mahal, which is definitely a reason to visit - and I suspect is much nicer in the spring/summer when it's warmer.

Fine, but not great

Fun, cozy decor with lots of spaces to relax in, both indoors and out. An oasis from the busy streets, we arrived and had dinner in the hotel because it was so fun and relaxing we didn't want to leave. 

The plants and greenery make it special, as well as the balcony with a view of the Taj. I took SO many photos :) 

Half of us from the US, half from India, both sides enjoyed the hotel. Their bathrooms, mattresses, pillows and linens were all comfortable and I was sad to only stay one night. 

 Amazingly comfortable and the food they provide is delicious and not too spicy (for that, I am grateful).

Funky decor with cozy spaces and greenery-- wins all around 

Stayed here 2 nights

Good base for Taj Mahal. Rooms are fairly basic but ok if you aren’t planning to spend time in them. Hot water has to be heated for 20 minutes before you want a shower. Rooms wasn’t cleaned while we were there. 
Breakfast is quite limited especially if you don’t want paratha or rice. Toast, jam and cornflakes offered. Some fruit but not covered so didn’t want to risk it. Didn’t really fill you up for a day of sightseeing. 
Evening meal is vegetarian- curry was nice but wouldn’t want the same 2 nights running. 
Alcoholic drinks also limited and waiter did not understand a lot of what we asked for so we just ended up with beer and sprite. 
Lovely garden and very colourful but only for a short stay for us.

Colourful and quirky

The Coral Tree was like a tropical oasis for our family of four…very colourful and friendly. We had a double room and a twin room adjacent to each other. There was also a small undercover area outside where we enjoyed sitting and watching the rain.
We only stayed one night and it was in the perfect location to visit the Taj Mahal being just a 10 minute walk away.
The beds were comfortable and everything was well maintained and clean.
I would stay here again.

Family stopover

Our family of 2 adults + 2 children had a wonderful stay at the Coral Tree. We were given 2 adjacent rooms on the top floor, which meant we had plenty of space and it felt very safe for the children that no one had to walk past their room. 

The building and gardens are absolutely beautiful, and so clean. It felt like a lovely retreat from the noise and busy-ness of the rest of the city.  Perfectly located for the Taj Mahal.

Dinner was lovely and they were very kind in cooking some plain pasta we'd brought for our children who weren't feeling well. Breakfast was also fantastic and very welcome after an early start at the Taj!

We must also mention Vandna and Gopal who were extremely welcoming hosts and really helped us when we had to leave one night early due to one of the children feeling poorly. We are only sorry that we didn't get to stay for longer, but we will definitely come back one day!

An oasis in the bustle of Agra

Stunning boutique style hotel. Warm welcome, beautiful garden. Large room with balcony. Excellent ‘home cooked’ food. Ideally positioned for a trip to Taj Mahal - about 15 minute walk. Was only there for 1 night - wish it had been longer.

A real gem of a hotel

The Coral Tree Homestay was a fabulous place to stay in Agra.  It was less than ten minutes walk to the Taj Mahal East Gate.  The room was clean and comfortable.  The garden was beautiful.  The evening meal was tasty and filling.  The staff were all so friendly and helpful.  It was a perfect place to stay in Agra,

A perfect stay near the incredible Taj Mahal

Rooms are small; bathroom is serviceable but badly outdated.  Neighborhood is not one you want to be in after dark due to a lot of petty crime and drugs.  View of the Taj Mahal from the rooftop is not great though they advertise that as a big feature.  Breakfast was bland.  I really wanted to like this place more as I'm a fan of B&B, but this is a solid 2, maybe 2.5 out of 5.  Not great, not horrible, but okay.  The big appeal is that it's cheap, safe, clean and a five minute walk to the Taj Mahal.
