The Reforma is an ancient hotel on the Plaza Barrios by the train station. It has an open central atrium and impressive wooden doors and trim from another era, giving a romantic look that may be one of the Reforma's best features. The atrium provides both light and air to the rooms, some of which have no windows. The rooms feature huge old wooden beds that look like they might have been there since colonial times. The mattresses are OK and the paint needs touch-ups, but the en suite bathrooms have been newly redone and look quite nice. Typical for Guatemala, there is hot water only in the shower, not the sink. The Wi-Fi works well, as do the televisions with cable. There was no breakfast, but the vendor who set up just inside the hotel's front door had good coffee and pan dulces. I was told not to go outside at night, but during the day the lively market scene on the sidewalk outside was fun to explore. Keep your wallet close. If you are traveling on a budget and have an adventurous spirit, the Reforma could give you a good night's sleep in central Guatemala City,
