The Regina Mare hotel closed last year, or thereabouts.  But the funicular railway is still there and it is possible to climb up the steps beside it and view the beach below from a good vantage point.The hotel is fenced off.  No offers have been made so far as is known.     And the beach below is really, really lovely.  Turquoise sea, sunbeds at 5 euros for two and a sunshade, and the guy who services the sunshades is very friendly, comes round to the guests on the beds with pieces of fruit and he'll go off and get drinks and food from the nearby taverna and bring it to you Free carparking right by the beach, toilets (the old-style ones) are there with a good shower block and changing rooms.

The beach below the Regina Mare is fabulous but the hotel has now shut down

The old Regina Mare hotel at Persia has been closed for a while now but is being completely refurbished as the Marbella Elix Hotel. It already looks fabulous. Anyone wanting to book a package from the UK then Olympic Holidays has that on offer now.

The hotel is reopening in 2020!!!!

The room was very small and closely spaced. The furniture was ancient and the bathroom looked very bad, the shower didn't work well. The worst of this hotel is the food. Everyday the meal was meat and potatoes, no fruits at all, no desserts. It wasn't all inclusive if you ask me. The photos show animators but at this time they weren't there. The most irritating thing was that the all inclusive didn't include coffee and we had to pay 3 euros for it, we say such a thing for a first time. In the evenings we were very bored, because the nearest town was approximately 20km away. If you need to buy medicine, there was no doctor and no pharmacy so you just hope not to get sick. After all, the beach was wonderful, the sea was crystal clear and turkoise green so we enjoyed the nature only.

Old hotel needs renovation

advantages/strong positive points: great view, great sea and beach. Good climate. Very good cleaning service for the rooms. (clean towels every day). water from shower always good and with pressure. what was moderate/overage-good but not so good: The food was ok, tasteful, cooked well, delicious, there were greek mediteranian dishes, like food cooked at home etc. and there were a couple of options to pick from (buffet-all inclusive-that's what this hotel offers)-however very rare there was a dish of see food/fish, the fruits or deserts were scarce-in fact there was usually only watermelon, and a kind of cake-one or another in most of the cases. This was about lunches and dinners. The breakfast was very good though. But drinks.during meals.the problem with drinks were they weren't in the buffet where you could self-serve-you had to ask the waiters who would bring you what you want but they bring it in small glasses, so you could starve from thirst if you wouldn't ask them a couple of times. These waiters-especially the older ones were not so nice and polite-they would never laugh-thus making you uncomfortable to ask for drinks many times. If you wanted a whole bottle of water-you would have to buy it, though you had paid the so called "all inclusive" service claiming all food and drinks were included. The disadvantage/weak points: bar and the staff of the bar and the service of the bar was awful (pool bar-that was the only bar they had open). You were supposed to have within your all inclusive package a list of drinks (mostly soft+beer and wine) included, but there was not good service at all for that-if you would go to ask for it the waiters would say-go to your table we would come there for you to take the order-and they would never come-you could sit there for hours and they would make you uncomfortable to ask for drinks-terrible service-terrible staff attitude. The other bad thing was the fact that the hotel promised-and even had it written everywhere in the reception hall etc, that they had a mini-club program for the kids, a greek show once a week etc, but they lied. Instead of that they would just put a movie in greek for kids in the evenings and just had a game with music for kids only one night instead of the movie. To conclude-I would recommend this hotel for the view, beautiful sea and beach and cleaning service, and up to a degree for the meals, but would not recommend it for the staff service of the bar-drinks-program they claim to have for kids.

Excellent beach with rough sand (Karavostasi beach). Crystal clear waters. Not much life underwater, so not much snorkelling.
Bad service due to lack of staff-10 people were working everything every day. 
We were all-inclusive but it was more like full board. Food was very tasty and fresh, but limited in choices (which is not bad). What was missing was soups, fruits and deserts.
Rooms were ok, but the hotel needs a bit of maintenance which obviously was lacking. 
The funicular to the beach was not always working - 281 stairs if walking instead, plus about 130 stairs if you are in the rooms on the top.

Beach and view are the only values

Not a four star at all!!! no doormen / bellboys, we had to carry our lugagges to the room, no security, wifi very slow, very poooooor meals, the only fruit we had for the whole week was watermelon, we were all inclusive and had to pay for the water in the restaurant, and for all the drinks after 10.00pm. If you ask for a cola at 10.04pm the waiter asks you to pay for it, what a shame. Pool was not cleaned every day. There was no entertainment at all, every evening at 9.00pm they run a cartoon movie for kids in GREEK language. The only positive thing was the cleaness of the room and the smile of 2 waitress despite they worked for 14 hours to serve non stop to 180 guests.
