I stayed two night at Maro Rooms , and it was a pleasureto leave. The first night they had overbooked, or that is what they claimed anyway. So my room was on hte ground floor, and the bathroom was on the other side of the entrance, to go to the toilet I had to pass the throught the office of the owner, and enter through the kitchen. Not very nice at all. 

The place is clearly very old, and in need for a refit, or at least a proper cleaning. I understand the need for cheap hostles, but this is simply not worth it. It was really down and dirty. Compared to the price it is a ripoff I am afraid, even though the location s perfect. Much better to walk 3 more minutes and find a nice place.

Old, cheap and dirty

We were 4 people travelling and had booked 2 rooms.The bathroom is not shown with pictures on booking-sites, and now we know why! The bathroom in one of the rooms was very disgusting! See the pictures I've posted. The bathroom was dirty and with lots of mold in the shower area and around the sink and toilet. The toothbrush glass was dirty/moldy inside. And after using water (sink/toilet) the smell of mold spread to the Whole room. The bathroom door could not be closed properly. In the second room we rented there was a very big dead cockroach under the bed. If this room had been properly cleaned before our arrival this cockroach would'nt have been there. We checked out the next morning and when the owner inspected the bathroom with us he just shaked his head and said that this room was ok. We tried to say that we would pay just for one room since the bathroom in one of the rooms was in better shape. The owner's respond was that we could behave like this in "Europe" but not in Chania. So, we payed for 2 rooms for 1 night so we could leave this terrible place. We've travelled quite a lot and this is by far the worst bathroom we've ever seen. The bedside lamp shown with picture is kind of a very good example of the rest of the interior in this room. The room is located in the middle of the Old City but with this bathroom this room is'nt habitable!

Terrible, moldy bathroom !!!

I never even made it there and I had a bad experience!

I cancelled my booking due to some upsetting personal reasons. I asked if the fee could be waivered or reduced - even if they couldn't do then I'd appreciate an appropriate response.

At first the hotel replied and gave a practically illegible response stating that I had four rooms booked and I need to tell them when I am arriving, ignoring completely my request to cancel (I never even booked four rooms...)

I then responded to them in fluent Greek, with assistance from my Greek friend, thinking this would assist. No. The hotel then proceeded to ignore me!

Scam! And I've paid €55 for NOTHING!

Unprofessional at the very least. And after reading the other reviews (of which I ashamedly didn't see before I booked) it's obvious the hotel is very problematic. The owner should be ashamed of him/herself.

Cancelled booking - I was ignored. SCAM!

Perverted landlord... greasy and staring eyes. Did not feel safe. Basic rooms just barely clean. Landlord George fancies himself to be a lady's man but he's just creepy.  Couldn't leave fast enough. Do. Not. Go.  

DISGUSTING

This hotel is totally NOT what it looks like in Booking.com pictures. Questionable hygiene. Tiny, stifling, dirty, old rooms. Horrible service and staff. We found hair in the shower of the two rooms we booked, toilet's placed in kind of a wardrobe and the door doesn't close properly.
At 1AM we met 2 of the biggest roaches I've ever seen (they were the size of a Clipper lighter) in the rooms. The owner was totally rude, saying LITERALLY that's what we could expect from the cheapest hotel in the city and refusing to cancel charges. Finally we came to an agreement of leaving the place (at 3AM) without any charge, but he still tried to get paid for a "no-show". I wasted a lot of money calling Booking.com's customer service from abroad to avoid this payment.
Honestly, I've travelled quite a lot and this is by far the worst hotel I've ever been to. Seriously, try to find somewhere else to stay.
