We arrived after a long journey to be told we weren't booked in. We showed our proof that we were and we're dumped in a room that wasn't ready for guests. It was late so we put up with it.
Moved the next day to a room that wasn't much better. The mattresses in this place are horrible, you might as well be sleeping on a bit of cardboard. Pillows too are dreadful, so bring your own if you can.

There is an awful smell throughout the place, not sure what it is, but be prepared for it when you arrive.

Not the hotel's fault but the church bells every 15 minutes from 6am will really wind you up after a bad night's sleep.

Door handles and plug sockets hanging out the walls in our room. no air con so windows must be open. 

Could just be during our stay, potentially even another guest, but from 7am each day you can be guaranteed loud music and  consistently someone loudly whistled up the stairs. Unsure if this is hotel staff trying to get people up for breakfast as it happened every day.

Even for a two star this is fire, I've stayed in hostels far better than this.

Don't book if you want to sleep

The previous comments seem to mention it being run down. There must have been a refurbishment, as our room was as though it was brand new. The beds were comfy, and everything was clean. It is located right in the centre of town, with the lake just meters away. The food served in the Vietnamese restaurant was decent, and quite cheap. Breakfast was inclusive and all of the usual orange juice, coffee, cereal, cold cuts, etc. The staff didn't show themselves very often, but they were still friendly, and gave us what we needed. Strangely, the wifi password isn't written anywhere: you have to ask a member of staff, who will then give it to you. My only real complaint was access: there is no lift, and with two large suitcases, walking up three flights of stairs to the room was unpleasant. All in all - not bad.

This hotel must have had a revamp since the previous comments!

I stayed there for a weekend as I was in town to attend a wedding. Now the location of the place is perfect as it is right in the city centre and great stores, the lake front, etc. are all within walking distance. Another plus was the price and the cleanness and you overall get good value, but nevertheless there were quite a few things that definitely should be improved. First of all I had called them the day before to let them know that I would check in very late. They were okay with that. Check-in then turned out to be ringing a bell and waiting for a guy to hand me the key. That was it. No paper to sign, no documents to check - nothing. So the guy explained to me where the room was - two flights up. No problem. Next: Open the door. The lock was old and the acoustics bad. So after I unsuccessfully and noisily fumbled with the key for quite a few minutes I went back down to reception, rang the bell again and all the guy tells me over the intercom is 'well, be a little more gentle!' Yep, that's what you want to hear at 12.30 am after a day of travelling! He eventually showed me how to open the door. 

The bed was comfy but squeaked at every move (don't even think about having fun in there ;).  
I could hear next-door neighbours coughing or showering. 

Breakfast was not bad, thank God. However, there was a true lack of customer service. There was no written information leaflet in the room that would welcome their guests, have the wifi password, additional information, etc. They kind of rolled their eyes when I asked for the wifi password. They rolled their eyes when I showed up for breakfast on Sunday morning too early. I had no idea that breakfast was later on Sundays simply because they did not communicate this at any stage! Also, there was no iron and iron board available. 

I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants to feel a little bit appreciated as a customer.

Great location but lots to improve

We came across this hotel in the centre of Uberlingen on a board of hotels with a telephone connecting to hotels.  The hotel sounded good and was a reasonable cost.
Upon entering hotel, there is no set reception area you have to press a buzzer on an intercom and then after speaking with a lady she came down and organised us a room.  The rooms are everywhere upstairs through doors but ok.

We found the double room to be pretty basic, it was compact room, the bed was quite hard and a bit uncomfortable, the bathroom was ok, but looked a bit run down, not the best we stayed in on our travels but ok.  There is no fridge in this room but was only 1 night so not totally necessary.  At least it was clean.

It had free wifi and breakfast was included, was good breakfast but not as many choices as some hotels but ok to start the day off.

On the board it said parking was available but was away from hotel, we had a motorcycle and was a few minutes away but we could park and unload bike first.

Overall a bit run down but was ok not the worst we have seen.

We had dinner in their Restaurant, "Little Saigon" very nice food and authentic looking Vietnamese Restaurant

Not too bad a hotel, good location

we have just arrived back from a 3 night stay at the hotel sonne and believe in giving a hotel a fair review based on how much i have paid. After reading reviews on other websites i was expecting a hell hole.
 we arrived and was given room 34. the room was large with a sofa in it. The bed base was a double (which looked new ish ) with two single matresses on it that were comfortable. The linen was all clean. The carpet was not great and really needed replacing. The bathroom was ok but like the bedroom is very tired and needs a makeover but like the bedroom was clean. Girls there is a hairdryer in the bathroom and there is a tv ( only one english news channel)for the boys when the girls are spending ages getting ready!!:). My brother and sisterinlaw had room 28 and was in the same condition  (tired)
Brekfast was included, it was a typical european brekfast, toast, cold meats, cereal etc, tea and coffee . Its not the largest of choices but for the 4 of us we thought is was ok and had no complaints.
Overall the hotel is very tired and does need a refit to bring it up to a reasonable standard. The hallways are in need of new carpets and a paint job as do the rooms and the stairwells need a good looking at. 
The hotel is right in the middle of uberlingen town and is excellantly situated for the bars, coffee shops, boat rides and the shops
I have to say after reading other reviews i was expecting a lot worse, i dont worry to much about the hallways and stairwells (im just pointing out to people what to expect) unless im staying in a 5 star hotel when i expect things to be in excellant condition. 
We paid £75 a night ( this is really pushing the price for this hotel) and this would be the most i would ever pay, but it is situated right in the middle of the town. we possibly paid a slightly higher price than normal as the town had a very popular pottery festival on. Hope this has been of some help and if you book this hotel just dont expect to much and you wont be disappointed
