This a small family-run guest-house. We were instructed that check-in would not be possible after 7.00pm and check-out by 10.00am. The place had a 'fusty' aroma and the bedroom was only just basic. Breakfast was OK and the husband and wife team (presumably) were friendly enough. But, for what it delivered, it was very overpriced.

Disappointing.

It's not fair to use this hotel only as a stopover from or to Italy because it has more to offer.  Owners are very helpful and like to talk about the sights in the neighborhood.  Lörrach indeed has to offer more but sadly we had no time as we were on our way back home from Italy.  Hotel may be small and not all rooms have toilet and shower.  We booked 3 rooms, two with shared bathroom and 1 with all the goodies included.  All rooms had a little desk and small TV, even a little fan when it gets too hot. Shared bathroom is very clean as were the rooms.  Big closets, very soft mattrass (not to everyone's liking).  A Garni JESch terrace ( smokers?) is also at your disposal, here you have a great view and can sip a fresh beer.  There is a little fridge available with beer(2,50), water, apple juice (1,50). Little problem here, apparently some guests think it's for free and we had to pay an extra 50cent on checkout because someone wanted free drinks.  Breakfast is wonderful ! German bread off course ;-) fresh fruit, cornflakes, muesli, cheese, eggs, even some pastries (try the bienenstich !)   Everything is refilled promptly so no worries !  We all speak German so had no language problems but I'm not sure other languages are spoken by the owners.  This is no problem in my opinion, we are used to traveling in UK or Italy or France ... no other languages are spoken there either. Ask about the buspass that can be used around Lörrach, as we did not stay we did not use it but it sounded like a cheap way to get around in the area !
Oh yes, we had a teen amongst us and she was very happy with the free WIFI.

Perfect stopover

I did cancel again not because of the other unfavorable reviews, but because as soon as I booked I got an Email stating facts that I wasn't aware at the time of booking and that sounded unprofessional to me.

They wanted more data about the people traveling IN ADVANCE, they said for the official german government registration form that needs to be filled out in hotels. Maybe they have bad experience with many people checking in the same room or the like, still this is done when you r there w your Governemnt ID. Sorry guys! 

More importantly their check in policy is unacceptable for business travelers. I don't know exactly how the day goes. And I can't tell my business partners - wait - I can't come with you because I have to check in into my hotel at 6:30pm or so.

My girlfriend and I stayed here at the end of our walking holiday from Pforzheim to Basel. 

Lorrach is on the edge of the Black Forest and is within the 'KONUS Card zone'. This scheme is a 2 Euro tourist tax that allows full use of all the local buses and trains in the Black Forest. It is a very good scheme. 

Upon departure my girlfriend requested our KONUS cards. She was shouted at by the lady running the restaurant. I then spoke to the male manager (owner?). He didn't have great English, but if I understood correctly, they had a dishonest employee in the past and are no longer allowed to participate in the KONUS scheme. If this is true, then I can appreciate this isnt' necessarily their fault. However, I do not appreciate being shouted at simply for asking for the card. Because they weren't able to provide a card, we had to purchase full price rail tickets to travel back through the Black Forest to collect our car in Pforzheim. 

Additionally, when we checked in, we were asked what time we wanted breakfast. Due to the problems with the incredibly rude woman in the restaurant, we didn't get a chance to eat. When I checked the receipt, they'd charged us both for breakfast, despite eating nothing. 

The room was rubbish - twin beds, stupidly hot, no aircon and an awful shower. 

Do yourself a favour and stay anywhere but here. The only bad experience we had, during a lovely two week walking holiday in the Black Forest, was this place.
