Melia Düsseldorf

This is a great hotel chain, we’ve now stayed at three of the Meliā or Meliā affiliated hotels, and the high standard has been evident in all of them, and this one is no different. This hotel has easy access to all the local transportation systems within a 2 minute walk, and about 10 minutes walk away from the old town, the river front and local bars and restaurants, and about 15 minutes walk to the Asian food places. Our room had an amazing view over the Hofgarten, it was spacious, comfortable bed and well appointed bathroom. Well worth the small extra to pay for a better room I think. The room also came equipped with a fridge, kettle and Nesspresso Style coffee maker. There are nice toiletries provided in the bathroom (shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, liquid hand-soap and moisturiser. The breakfast was extremely pleasant, including cooked and continental options, cereals, fruits, yoghurts, pancakes, cakes, pastries, a multitude of breads, juices, teas and freshly ground coffees, also available to take away with you as you leave the restaurant. The bar at the hotel was a little expensive, but a nice setting if you fancied a drink before bed. There were a few negatives: We stayed for 3 days and the pods for the coffee machine were not replenished, and when we asked at reception we were told they didn’t have any, and that was sort of the end of that. So once we’d use the pods, that was it. The noted services listed on the App stated they offered bike hire, but when we asked the Reception they said no, they don’t offer bike hire. This was disappointing as we had hoped to cycle along the river front. There are city bikes to use via Apps, but there were never any around when we looked. The room temperature didn’t seem to alter, despite setting the temperature to the lowest setting, it remained very warm. The only way to stop the heat was to open the window, which was actually ok given the unseasonably warm weather for March. Overall the hotel is very good, the staff are friendly, and appreciated my attempts at using my school level German.
