Deuel Insolite is a camping site, but not for tenting, it has an "unusual" asssortment of accomodations, rangiing from cnverted gypsy wagons, an American Airstream trailer, a house made of shiping containers, a yurt (or gher), even a Double-Decker London Bus!  Each lodging is dispesed from it's neighbor, the proprety is gently rolling lawn, nicely trimmed, with some trees for shade, and outdoor furniture at each site.

We had the luxury of a gypsy wagon, and were surpised at how nicely equipped it was.  All amenities to include a galley or kitchen, shower, vanity, toilet room, double bed, and twin bunk beds.  Lovely wood interior, clean and well set-up for an exended stay.

The owners, Stephane and Odile, are a great couple, friendly, fluent in English, and are charming hosts.  For something different, and a grreat place to just unwind, put Duele Insolite at the top of your list if you're in the area!

"Insolite" Means Unusual, but a Great Place to Stay!

Stayed here last week in the Mongolian yurt. From meeting the Stefan we immediately got the impression that we would be looked after, especially having not visited the area before. I'm so happy that we stayed here. Having looked at wembrechies online the photos are totally not representative of how cute and clean the actual town is. We walked along the canal from the yurt into town (very small town) and enjoyed beers in a couple of the bars there. This place is only 1.5 hour drive from Calais and is a perfect location for those wanting something in the north of France. Thank you Stefan for putting together such a great and quirky alternative to a hotel or b&b!! Will certainly be back

Quirky and ever so accommodating 

Stayed at Deule Insolite for 2 days/one night and loved it. Our roulotte was charming, very clean (spotless!) well equipped and in a beautiful wild flower meadow by the river Deule approx 5 miles from Lille town centre.

The site is a little tricky to find from the main road if coming from Ypres direction  (look out for the flags - if you get to the town you've missed it!) Turn down the drive and keep left in to the car park. There is no reception area so Stefan will be waiting in a roulotte or will be in the car park. He and his wife were very welcoming and he speaks excellent English. The roulotte was lovely extremely clean and equipped with everything we needed including a small tv to watch the last of the Olympics! There are 3 roulottes on site with an airstream caravan and a small yurt all set in a wildflower meadow by the river. Stefan has recently purchased a double decker bus from the uk which is currently being renovated to make another accommodation. Our roulotte (the blue one) faced the river and had a small seating area for 4, a kitchen with fridge, microwave, hob, sink and coffee maker and toaster. All the usual dishes, pans etc plenty of glasses and cleaning equipment including tea towels and dish cloths. There is a curtained high double bed in the main area and a separate room with bunk beds perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids (ours are 14 and 11 and had plenty of room). A separate toilet and an immaculate very modern shower room with sink and shower. Nice new towels and even shampoo, body wash and soap. Lots of hot water too! 

There is a cycle path that runs by the river making it easy to walk in to the pretty town of Wambrechies where there are shops and cafes etc. Our 14 year old spent Sunday morning fishing on the pond 2 mins from the meadow. The path by the river was busy with families cycling, horses and joggers and the river had barges going up and down and lots of ducks and birds. Around each caravan the meadow is cut to make paths a small garden area. There were poppies, cornflowers, wild orchids, wild roses and lots more. There were lots of rabbits in the gardens too!

On arrival Stefan and his wife showed us a basket they had prepared with tea, ground coffee, jams and cereals and there was a litre of milk in the fridge so we could enjoy tea and coffee at once. The following morning he returned with freshly baked croissants and french bread and beautiful freshly squeezed orange juice, made by his wife. We were very lucky that we had amazing weather and could enjoy our petit dejeuner outside on our picnic table overlooking the river.

There were many extra touches provided including a very comprehensive information book on the area. Covering Lille,Ypres and the battlefields to the north and even Bruges, all of which are within 2 hrs drive. There was even a set of colouring crayons in the back of the folder for the children to use. Paper napkins, bin bags, tea towels  etc all provided which if you are coming for a weekend is great as you don't want to cart a load of bit and pieces with you.

It took us an hour from Ypres meandering through Flanders Fields and about 15 minutes into the centre of Lille. The journey back to Calais on Motorways took about 1 1/2 hrs. Very achievable for a weekend away.

We really enjoyed our brief visit to Deule Insolite and hope to return soon.

A lovely roulotte by the peaceful river Deule - recommended!

we enjoyed (only 1 night) this unusual camping site. Very clean, plenty of space on the site. Super friendly owner (who is retiring in Sep19 unfortunately).  Who will take over?
Location is peaceful and only 10' on foot to Wambrechies centre alongside the canal.
