It is one of the most amazing places I have ever stayed. 
I stayed there for two days after I missed my ferry to Dublin. The place is a unique mansion, in the middle of the city. each room is far from the other, so quiet and private a beautiful garden in the middle. The staff is super kind and helpful.

You have to go there!

We were greeted with a glass of wine in the owners personal kitchen and by there lovely dog "adhoc". The apartment was basic but full of character. It had a very loud stair case but this wasn't a problem for us. Split over two floors like a duplex apartment. The owner could not have done more to make us happy with our stay and made us feel very at home. If you want a perfect room go else where, if you want to feel welcomed and some where special stay then you will feel at home.

Characterful place

We stayed in the courtyard apartment and were quite disappointed. At first site the property looks really good and has lovely gardens. The apartment we were given was not the one I thought I had booked as I wasn't expecting any stairs. The kitchen area was a bit shabby with some if the furniture being past its best. The bedroom, up some rather rickety stairs, was enormous. The electric bed only worked at one end, though it was very comfortable. The bathroom was huge, but, unfortunately, the entrance to the shower was so high, my wife couldn't use it. Breakfast was ok, but, after Les Lions deTourgeville, only average.
This is a nice place, just not suitable for senior citizens, especially the courtyard apartment. Wifi extremely intermittent.

A little disappointing

Pulling into La Maison Duchevreuil was a jaw-dropping experience.  After winding through the narrow, house-packed streets of Cherbourg, we weren’t sure what we were getting into (we’d long since forgotten the pictures).  We turned onto yet another narrow lane and counted down the house numbers until they ran out at the end of the lane.  We looked up and saw the #36 over what appeared to be a tunnel.   We drove through and as we emerged from the other side, we all began laughing.  It was a happy laugh.  A laugh that reflected out great luck in finding such a story-book spot.  The rooms (there are only 3 available to guests) are spacious, charming and comfortable with free WiFi.  The bathrooms are modern, though the showers are typical tiny.  Breakfast was excellent and the innkeepers were interactive and extremely friendly.  I’m not sure I’d return to Cherbourg, but if I did, I’d stay at La Maison Duchevreuil.

We giggled like kids on Christmas morning.

Always wonderful to stay in a B&B that exceeds your expectations !   La Maison Duchevreuil is an absolute delight for those travelers who wish to enjoy a charming location with delightful hosts. Sophie , the proprietress and her husband, Bruno could not have made us feel more welcome or cared for at their home.  They gave us the choice of rooms and we were able to enjoy an evening in a two room flat that would be quite perfect for a family although there were only the two of us. Living room is furnished in " shabby chic "; bed was so comfortable; bathroom included a full size tub which was lovely for soaking after a long flight from Seattle and then train to Cherbourg.  Gardens on this level of the property were so lovely....pear trees ( pears were part of our delicious breakfast ); lawn furniture in which to relax; table for outdoor dining or, in our case, sharing a glass of wine in the evening while watching the stars.
Are their " quirks ".....YES !    If you are looking for a 5 star ; no surprises/you know exactly what to expect type of hotel, then you may wish to look further.  If you wish to have an " experience " sharing a property that has been lovingly restored by the owners; enjoy a delicious breakfast; be treated as though you are part of their family, then you have found the place. Honestly, we could not have been happier and just wish we had stayed longer. Next time !!

Wish We Had Stayed Longer !

Loved the atmosphere. Had an apartment with the bedroom in the attic. Breakfast was clearly a nice surprise to have in the backyard on a sunny morning. Very friendly host. WiFi could definitely work better.
