We hadn’t booked but were recommended to try this restaurant by our hotel. Good location (away from the main square full of tourists), excellent food and a correct price. The staff were all very efficient and we enjoyed the evening.

Just right

The Auberge des Lices is in a fantastic location in the mediaeval cite of Carcassonne. It is in a quiet street. The building doesn't look like much from the outside but the room we had was lovely. It was large, nicely furnished, clean, with a modern large bathroom ensuite. Our room overlooked the auberge restaurant courtyard, the ramparts and the Basilica. 

This Auberge is not a hotel, It is focused more on the restaurant side than on accommodation. The staff that will help you are really the waiters of the restaurant, but they are very friendly and kind and speak good English.

The restaurant of the Auberge has excellent French food and has a reputation as one of the best restaurants in the old town. We enjoyed our evening meal there and recommend having a meal there during your stay.

There is a bar with a large garden near the auberge which may be a little noisy on weekends.

Great location in the heart of the old town

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It's upstairs from the restaurant. The room and bathroom were both good sized and updated. We heard restaurant noise until about 10:30 as they cleaned up for the night. After that, it was very quiet. The staff was very friendly. Parking is a little complicated. Rick Steves has a good explanation about how to accomplish it. I would stay here again.

Staying in the Historic City Center

This is a restaurant with two rooms. There is no front desk and staff are only there when restaurant is open. For checking in - ring them on the day to check they are there!!! I rang earlier in the week and asked if I could come between 2 -3 pm, but I think they forgot us, we came at 2.40 and no-one was there and no-one answering the phone. We went back at 6pm and they were there. So call them late morning on your arrival day to double check!!! There was a mobile number on a frame inside the restaurant but when we arrived all doors were closed so we couldn’t see it.
Restaurant is fantastic by the way, superb value 20 euro menu and good staff. Nice courtyard terrace.
Room is a good size, up some stairs and no lift. Clean and good size bathroom. 
They give you the code for the outside door, we had to give it a heck of a shove to open it when we got back. Also no-one from staff there overnight so it may not suit you if you prefer having a staff member on site.
No breakfast offered but there are plenty of cafes doing a breakfast option. 
It’s a good location and price was ok too. Parking is at edge of the Cité then you walk in (appx 10-15 mns). Park in P0 or P1, these are free overnight, you pay until 8pm.

Good location but not a hotel 

Recommend that you phone the Auberge first to check time of check in and parking arrangements. Good english is spoken. The Auberge is shut between 3 and 6 in the afternoon. A code is provided after booking in to enter the Auberge when shut. Booked in at 2, by prior arrangement. Parking is free, however, you have to park in one of the lower public car parks, first half hour free, then walk the 200/300m or so to the Auberge. Check in and they will then give you a fob for the free car park. Go back to your car and then move to the free car park, a bit further away, with the barrier opened by the fob, then return the fob to the Auberge, as they only have that one. You do not need the fob when leaving this car park. We had a beautiful double room, very french, with views. Excellent wifi and air con. Small Fridge and tea/coffee facilities provided. Lovely corner bath, however, water pressure was very low and the shower attachment was extremely ineffective. By the end of the day, there was no hot water either. The bed was comfortable at first, however, it had a rubber/plastic mattress protector that encouraged major sweating during the night.

Good wifi and Air con, plumbing and parking problematical

Would never advice anyone to come and eat/stay here. Incompetent staff. Good place to get Covid and waste your money.
No point spending your time here. Anywhere is better then here. Dont be fooled by pictures.

WORST Service of whole Carcasonne

I’ve lived in this area for 12 years and eaten in many excellent restaurants.  Last night we joined friends dining here for a drink. They were three at a table of four so we added one chair to the end and ordered a bottle of wine. While pouring the waitress told us that we would be charged €5 each ‘for the glass ‘. When questioned further the floor manager said having 5 on the table made the table next to us, which was not only untrue, but made no difference as there were a number of empty tables. As we left, one of us mentioned trip advisor and the floor manager launched into an extraordinary tirade, in spite of none of us raising our voices. The food was apparently good, the service beyond poor, absolutely unprofessional and borderline open agression.  Attitude didn’t match the man-bun hipster look.
