Vast apartments with all the amenities. Traditional Egyptian breakfast and dinner included and served by friendly staff. Mahmoud and Jane will organise organise all outings to the nearby must sees:the Colossi of Memnon, the Valley of the Nobles, Valley of the Kings and, of course, Luxor. They provided reliable drivers and very knowledgeable guides. They will also coordinate more "off the beaten path" excursions, like camping in the White Desert, overnight felucca cruises or balloon rides over Hatshepsut Temple. I can't say enough good things about them as hosts, they were truly brilliant.

Everything is taken care of

Roomy, true, but very uncomfortable with furniture like boulders, no heat (and no extra blankets), poorly insulated, so the place swarmed with mosquitos (glass windows are held in by framing nails), not enough toilet paper, though we asked repeatedly for it. We arranged some tours through the owner and had one good driver who spoke good English and while requested only him, were given other drivers who were terrible, spoke little English, no French, Italian, German, or Dutch (we tried!), they gave friends rides, taking us out of our way until we yelled at them to stop. Totally unprofessional and unreliable. You can do much better anywhere else for less money. And a lot less hassle.

Not worth the money at any price

I stayed at Goubli apartments in September 2016, travelling alone for work. Mahmoud was a wonderful host and all the staff working there were very friendly and helpful. The apartments themselves are really spacious, clean and have fabulous views of the local countryside. It was such a nice location, near to everything you could want from town but among all the greenery and away from the hustle and bustle. The rooftop terrace has a great view of the mountain lit up by night and eating there in the restaurant had a great atmosphere- and delicious food! There is a pool and sun lounge area, balconies, lobby with sofas and drinks fridge and free wifi in the hotel. Mahmoud helped me to arrange getting around where I wished to go and had some great recommendations to see things off the normal tourist trail which really made my trip. I had a brilliant time, will most certainly be returning again and could not recommend this place enough!

Fantastic stay, wonderful staff and great facilities

Elegant, enormous 3-br, 2-bath flat, huge rooms and nicely furnished, with wraparound balcony that overlooks Deir el-Bahari (Hatshepsut temple) and the mountains, surrounded by farm fields with camels and donkeys -- perfect setting, near all the West Bank archeological sites. Staff was extremely accommodating and genuinely friendly, couldn't have been better. Our food was excellent and very inexpensive, and we could eat on the roof, overlooking Hatshepsut's temple, or our two balconies or our dining room. This is a genuinely, purely Egyptian experience, not a lavish Euro-style hotel, and a great, great value. Also Jane Akshar is a highly knowledgeable Egyptologist, and eager to help. She will arrange the best guides and drivers in Luxor, at very low prices but with guaranteed expertise. I'm in Egyptology myself, so I can confirm that Jane's guides know their stuff. This is NOT the typical packaged-tour experience. This is for people who really care about ancient Egypt and want to absorb all they can, of past and present both.

Spectacular setting, spacious elegance

Jane and Mahmoud made our stay at Goubli flats in Luxor a great experience.  Being met from the airport by a friendly face who knows the local area and can arrange all the trips for us, as and when we wanted, was brilliant.  We were certainly well looked after.
Our apartment was on the top floor so we had amazing views over the banana plantations to the Nile. The boys carried our bags up which was great as there is no lift ...and we were very fit by the end of the week climbing all the stairs ...but it was worth it. The rooms were huge and we had two lovely balconies to sit out and enjoy the views and the sunshine.
January was a good time to go, temp 24degrees in the daytime i.e. hot but not too hot ...but it did get cold at night so bring warm clothes too!
We catered for ourselves at lunchtimes and had breakfast and evening meal in the flats ...£2 or £3 for breakfast and £5.50 for evening meal with 2 courses...delicious.
Best bit was the donkey trek up into the mountains overlooking the valley of the kings...after that we really did walk like an Egyptian...and the camel ride came a close second.
Hatshepsut and Tombs and temples in the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Nobles are amazing... and Luxor and Karnak temples are good too.
Brilliant holiday with lots to do and see and plenty of time relaxing round the pool too.
