Hello! I wanted to take a moment to say how incredibly thankful I am for the opportunity to study here at Mayra’s school. As a beginner Spanish speaker, I spent 4 hours a day studying with Mayra for a month and now feel completely comfortable conversing with locals and vocalizing my thought. Mayra is incredibly attentive, a hard worker, and is dedicated to her students! She also manages beautiful apartments (that I stayed in for a time) and they are kept very clean with beautiful view of Baños and great access to the city. I enjoyed my month here so much that I have decided to stay longer! 

So great that I decided to extend my stay :)

I'll try to make this short. I am a Canadian senior (retired photojournalist) 71 years old presently spending 5 months here in Banos, Ecuador. I was looking to rent an apartment by the month and found Mayra online. She agreed to rent me her Studio Suite for $300USD per month and asked for a $50 deposit which I sent her. She also asked if I would pick her up some vitamins in Canada because they are cheaper here. I did her that favor. On arriving I immediately paid her $300 rent and gave her the vitamins. After a few days I had to "ask her" to repay me (amount on receipt $22.71). She paid me only $20...no big deal I guess...I let it go. A tip would have been more appropriate. I was just beginning to learn about Mayra! The Studio Suite was a nightmare for noise...dozens of dogs barking all night long and construction on the roof of house next door. Welders grinding and welding for 3 weeks steady. Unbearable.... never opened the windows once in a month due to already so much noise and welding smell! I admit that she did offer me another room which might have been quieter...though I doubt it. Here's the killer....when I told her I would move end of month due to so much noise. She kept $30 of my $50 deposit. WHY? I closed the apartment door one day and the handle came off...just like that...pulling the door closed. My guess is it was previously broken. She charged me $15. And the cheap glass (12" by 18") in the refrigerator broke from the weight of a large yogurt container. She charged me another $15 for that. I was quite willing to pay for the glass ..probably $3-$4. I admit that the noisy neighborhood is NOT Mayra's fault. But the fact that she is a con artist and a thief certainly is! She WILL take advantage of travellers....and as I'm learning she has a bad reputation locally for doing that!! She will respond saying I am lying...I have have no reason to lie!!!!....she has every reason to lie. I recommend not having anything to do with this woman ever. Bad news!!

Terrible Experience!!! Unbelievable dishonesty!!

We did lessons with Mayra and it was great. She offered really competitive pricing and was really flexible with the hours we wanted to do. It is apparent that she is really experienced getting a lot of important info across quickly for gringos. Highly recommend. Thanks Mayra! 

Spanish school

I spent three weeks at Mayra’s Spanish School taking 20 hours a week of classes. I had a private teacher, Christina. I learned a lot and became much more comfortable conversing. I would highly recommend the school to anybody who is interested in learning Spanish!

Great Spanish School!

I spent a month at Mayra’s Spanish school and staying in her apartments.  I highly recommend her school and Banos as a place to study Spanish.  My instructor, Christina, was excellent.  I had four hours of class Monday through Friday.  The great thing about Banos is there is a lot you can do in the afternoon after class.  Hikes, thermal baths, tours, and a variety of good restaurants. The town is a little touristy but it is very walkable and safe. If you do need a cab, there are plenty and they are inexpensive.  The rooms vary from a studio to a shared flat.  My share flat with a private bathroom was a great value.  Mayra is a great host.

A great place to learn Spanish!

My sister and I were in baños for 5 days and decided to do some Spanish lesson whilst we were there. Mayra was incredible and managed to fit us in last minute for 4 days of intensive spanish lessons which have helped immensely. We would 100% recommend Mayra's school and would have liked to have stayed longer ourselves! Muchas muchas gracias para todo Mayra :)

Brilliant school!

What a find this place was. Great location---8 mins walk from the bus station and the hot springs and bars and restaurants. We had a two bedroom appartment with a fantastic kitchen complete with a juicer and coffee maker. Mayra was really helpful with local information and our onward journey. we stayed here for 5 nights and only left as we had to continue our travels. Very good wi fi.

Great location,quiet and fantastic amenities.

If you don't mind living in an older apartment in need of updating Mayra provides great value.  The apartment was large and everything worked, it just had a tired appearance.  The important components were there and Mayra really looked after us resolving some disappointments. I would definitly stay there again.
