We went to Finca Kobo for a Cocoa tour. It was way beyond our expectations and we had a three hour tour of the grounds. Alberto was our guide and was excellent, so knowledgable and he shared his botanical training in a way that made it fun and informative about local farming and the history of plants and the area around. We all found it really interesting. The chocolate fondue, fruit and chocolate cake at the end was delicious. Can’t recommend enough and it’s great to support a local business

Fabulous chocolate tour. Highly recommended

Delicious chocolate, and Juan was an excellent guide. He really took the time to get to know us, and to share his extensive knowledge of fruits/cultivated plants and the cacao making process! Highly recommended for a half-day activity on the Osa Peninsula.

Amazing chocolate and farm tour!

We stayed here as a family of four. The cacao farm tour by Alex was a great experience. Alex is dedicated to organic farming and reintroduction of native plants into this area. He is very knowledgeable and his story of turning this area to what it is today (from a former rice field) is very inspiring. The farm is beautiful and very peaceful. The accommodation is basic and clean. The breakfast is delicious (the bread and hot chocolate was the best we have had in Costa Rica to date). 

The beach nearby, Playa Blanca, is ideal for swimming.

Lovely organic cacao farm stay

Alex and the botanical paradise he and his family have cultivated is amazing! Love his knowledge of native plant species and dedication to regeneration of the natural forest. The chocolate and fruit offered at tour’s end is the perfect way to wrap up a fun and informative day. Thank you so much Alex!!! 🙏😃🌿

Osa Botanical Paradise

We were so appreciative of how much we learned. From beginning to end our guide, Juan Luis, provided us with so much nformation on the complexity of agricultural and horticultural work being done in this special farm in the Osa. We didn’t expect and could not have anticipated a better experience! And it was topped off with the most incredible tasting of chocolate products paired with fruits produced on this verdant farm! Thank you for the great experience!

Unexpectedly educational and downright lovely

Great tour German and his daughter showed us through their great little farm and how they make chocolate ,showed us indigenous plants and their uses such as cinnamon, coconut, pineapple, sour sap, papaya, peppercorns, etc.  Well worth the three hours that it took and it was very interesting going on an actual chocolate making farm.  Tour was  a bargain at $40 plus transportation

Chocolate Farm tour

This is a beautiful property. We were given an interesting and informative tour of the farm. We did NOT stay at the hotel, but the cottages were very charming from the outside and scattered throughout the property tucked into the jungle. We truly enjoyed visiting as part of a small group of about 15 from our small-ship cruise. They took their time with us and answered our questions. It's a lush and beautifully cultivated property with a lot of thought driving their decisions. The owners/developers were onsite when we were there. There is a covered pagoda where they host the demonstrations and you get to sample the chocolate.

This is a lovely farm/hotel well worth a visit.

I visited Finca Kobo on April 3rd and vastly enjoyed this activity!  I went with a small group of adventure kayakers and Juan Luis was our tour guide.  He was knowledgeable and enthusiastic; I learned so much about the ecosystem and how the farm operates to maximize horticultural diversity and well as provide food "distractions" for the local monkeys to keep them from eating all the cacoa pods :)  The grounds were beautiful and immaculately maintained.  The tour finished with a tasting menu of desserts made with their cocoa products and their fruit.   Delicious!  I can not say enough good things about this tour.  One unexpected benefit - my shoes still smell like chocolate after walking on the seeds in the pathways two weeks later!

Absolutely loved this tour!

Excellent tour, informative and worthwhile. We went with a large group on a shore excursion with a Lindblad cruise and Juan Luis was our guide. He was patient with our somewhat unruly group and attentive to the children, answering all questions. We started with a short walk through the gardens during which he also let us sample star fruit and mandarin. He gave a very informative talk explaining each step of the process of growing, harvesting, drying, fermenting and grinding the cacao. Tour Bonus: There were many squirrel monkeys and white-faced Capuchin nearby and he paused his talk so we could get close and see them. At the end they had prepared a delicious chocolate tasting with chocolate cake, chocolate sauce with bananas, pineapple and watermelon. The facility was quite nice and easily accessible from the road and within there are well-maintained stone walkways. Highly recommend!
