Hotel Staff:
This is my favorite part of getting to stay at Melia Cartagena Karmairi. The genuine friendliness and accommodation is world class! I’ve stayed at many hotel brands across the world, and Melia does this better than any competition.

Hotel Room:
This was very clean and comfortable! I thoroughly enjoyed the patio outside and could work while enjoying the beautiful weather.

On-Site Dining:
The food is excellent! I was intimidated at first by being unfamiliar, but the staff was very helpful in accommodating to help understand what food they serve and what it contains.
My favorite food probably the Pescado de Filet and Quippa!

Location:
Perfect! It is only a three minute walk to the beach from the hotel and there is accommodations on the beach. You are a short drive from the city, but this is better because it is not overcrowded.

Cleanliness:
Once again, this is a plus for visiting because of not only general cleaning practices but also enhanced COVID precautions. I felt very safe and secure, that extra measures were taken to ensure safety of both guests & staff.

Pool is great some people said it is too deep but perfect for 5 6 wee folk
The staff were very kind to every animal.  There was a stray cat with kittens and the staff were so kind and worked on finding them a home and fed them the whole time we were there until the person who was taking them got there a few days later.

The Bad: (can be fixed)
Ran out of hot water in shower within 5 minutes.  The staff did address this when I made them aware
Service is lacking but this is cultural and not because they are not trying
No menus for breakfast
No room service menu
You have to ask for spa entrance from the front desk - knock really loud or go to the front desk because they will not hear you

The Ugly: (can’t be fixed)

Amazing!

We stayed there after a round trip through Colombia and enjoyed our stay very much. Make sure to stay at ‘The Level’ which is the smaller building at the beach and separated from the main building. They only have about 7 ‘suites’ there and it is very cozy there. Only guests from The Level can use the restaurant and the pool area. During our stay we literally had the area for ourselves as there were only a few to no other guests. To note: they also offer people from outside to use the restaurant which we think is quite fair and is actually not really bothering at all. 
The main building offers lots of rooms and the pool over there is quite small. Wondering how that works out if all rooms are occupied, so better stat at The Level. 

Food is nice, even though the menu at The Level is a bit limited. Would be great to have more choices but quality was always good. It’s that if you stay there one week having the same menu for lunch and dinner it can get a bit boring. However, as said food is great. Breakfast at the main building is buffet but also good. 

The suites at The Level are very nice, modern and quite spacious. Make sure to ask for a suite with a balcony if you enjoy sitting outside a bit during the morning. 
The pool area is very nice and there are enough sunbeds in case all suites should be occupied. 
They also have sunbeds down at the beach, below The Level building. The beach, to us, is not that nice and as the pool was we enjoyed staying there the whole time. 

Spa is also very nice and modern. We booked a massage during the stay and enjoyed it. 
They do have a little gym at the main building which is equipped with the essentials. Ok to have some workout or going in the treadmill. 

The staff is very polite and friendly. While all staff at the reception speaks very good English, the waiters don’t. Not a big deal though because they are extremely friendly  and we had lots of fun ordering in a mix of limited Spanish and English. There are a few waiters at The Level learning English and it is great to see that they are more than eager to improve their skills, especially young talents. 

Great modern hotel

Everything about this resort was perfect! We (my husband and I) stayed in "the Level" and cannot stress how much better it is than staying in the main building (it is well worth the upgrade fee). The food was amazing, the pool was amazing, the drinks were great, and there are no words to describe how good the staff is. They were so attentive and friendly and helpful. They always had a big smile and were willing to help in any way that they could. Although all the staff were great, I want to give a special shoutout to Angie, Jose, Yuliana, John, David and especially Ricardo and Yordano. We never wanted for anything, and these staff members bent over backwards to make our stay memorable. In short, this is by far the best holiday we have ever had, and we cannot wait to go back!

Heaven on Earth

This hotel is a little odd, no gift shop or computer room, the beach is a 5 min walk down the road. What was interesting is that all the hand rails inside and out are plastic[ tacky],also there are no handles on the exterior of the patio doors.Elevators malfunctioned almost daily, the quality of workmanship when the place was built is poor.The dining room was more like a cafeteria,the food was not that good and it was recycled,limited options, terrible beef, no bacon, no lettuce for the first 3 days.All light switches and bathroom accessories were mounted low? Nightly entertainment was a right off. A huge language barrier exist also.So having said all this, it,s just another reminder why we avoid AI,s,no Canadian whisky at the bar either...tours are expensive..Hope this helps...Mark K

disappointed

Staff were good and food was ok. Free shuttle service into town was convenient. Unfortunately suffered food poisoning, bad odour in pool area, some distance from mediocre beach. Not operated by Melia.

Not to Previous Melia Standards

Literally, there will be nothing to do, but relax! Even the staff won't bug you and try to up-sell you anything! (We tried to upgrade our room but couldn't - I get it, they were booked. We tried to upgrade to the Level pool area but couldn't - this didn't make sense, as there was never more than 2 people there. We had a hard time accessing the spa to book an appt (maybe they're closed due to holidays?).)

Not many staff walked around the facility to be of service so it's not the same level of service as other all-inclusives that we were used to. We had to chase down staff and drinks took a while. Don't expect pool-side anything! Believe it or not, if you eat at Fish House (highly recommended!), room service is faster than sitting in the restaurant itself, and there are plenty of areas to eat your feast al fresco. But with that said, staff was always friendly, even if you had to ask for the same thing several times. 

I didn't try the buffet - it didn't tempt me much. There are also 24/7 snacks by the lobby bar (finger foods like yucca fries, bean empanadas, cheese/charcuterie, cheese croquettes). I think there should be plantain chips there as well, but to my mucho disappointment, nope. 

There's no entertainment - nothing to do. I think one of the 3 days we were there, they were announcing some aquatic activities when I was checking out but it was in Spanish so I could be wrong. The other days we were there, the pool area was pretty tame, you either lounged or you were in the pool. Noone was loud, and didn't really see guests interact much with each other either. Not a party hotel! One of the nights, live music (sax player) played in the patio area. Other than that, there are nearby hotels that you can taxi to (can't walk to) that I heard was livelier (we heard the music from the beach but didn't go). 

For once, I booked this hotel without reading reviews. For instance, I didn't know that there are 2 parts of this hotel - a more exclusive Level suites (closer to beach) and a more modern building that houses most of the rooms, the hotel lobby, bar, buffet and main pool. the main pool is deep all around, and i'm not short, so most people ask for pool noodles to float around. (There is always a shortage of pool noodles.) They are also stingy with giving towels away - 2 per room, and if you ask for more, be prepared for stink eye, but they will begrudgingly give you 1 more. If you're in Level suites, forget about towels - the 2 in your room is all you get! 

The facilities were always clean but I saw many guests had to bus their own tables, as empty glasses/plates leftover on tables weren't taken away in a timely manner, preventing others from sitting there. Rooms are modern and clean. Beds are comfy. Showers are weak (a drizzle) but large.

There were several bees/wasps by the pool but no mosquitoes! Also not many mosquitoes in general even at the beach by sunset, which is a plus. Sunsets and walks along the beach are amazing, btw! 

Overall, we had a great time relaxing in the pool. Just wanted to add to your expectations, that's all :)

Come here for peace and serenity!

We were pleasantly surprised upon arrival on New Year’s Eve.  The open space of the lobby and bar is tastefully decorated and has an upscale vibe.  

We have traveled to several countries and stayed in numerous resorts and this one has the smoothest check-in process.  

Lunch just ended but Oscar asked us what we would like and soon after we were presented with fresh grilled fish and vegetables.

Our room was in the Level section which is indescribable.  My husband continuously said, “This is the most relaxing vacation.”  With only nine rooms, the place is nice and quiet.  There are more than enough lounge chairs so there is not a need to run out early to claim a spot.

The food is SPECTACULAR- fresh seafood and flavorful dishes.

The staff - THE STAFF!! What can I say about the staff other than they are simply amazing.  There was not a single frown or bad attitude.  Tonight is my last night and I am eternally grateful for their hard work.  They put forth great effort to make sure we were completely satisfied.

This is a great hotel 15 minutes from the hectic city center. Be wary though there are different types of stays in this hotel.

If you are looking for Luxury retreat do book the "level's" rooms, a bungalow like house attached to the main building by a road.

If you are looking for econo-lux then book the other rooms. It's all inclusive, the food is great alcohol and cocktails are premium, but if you want to change your menu up you can book the fish house restaurant which is in the "levels" quarters. Mini bar drinks are included!!!

The levels bungalow area is off limits to the rest of guests so I'd really suggest booking if you want more of an exclusive area. You can use the beach facilities though right in front of the "level".

The hotel was completely full but I never felt it was crowded. There are various activities at night and the staff are really nice and helpfull if you want to book tours.

There's a shuttle that takes you to the City center and back at no cost, do go in the mid afternoon it gets pretty hot in Cartagena at midday.

The beach is nice and not as crowded as the others like Bocagrande and laguito and you won't get pestered as much. Do NOT pay more than COP20k to COP25k for a beach hut and if you want extra chairs you will have to pay 5k more. 


Great hotel in Crowdless Beach

 A real experience in Melia Cartagena Experience.  A new product in Cartagena in Manzanillo área,  just 30 minutes from historic city.  Is a new concept adults only in Colombia, relax and comfort!
