Location was central, very close to the night market and train station. However, the property fell short in terms of hygiene and customer service. We had to request fresh amenities to be sent over everyday.

Great Location

The hotel is right at the crossing of Renmin Road and Ganjiang Road. Arriving by train in Suzhou at the older Suzhou Station, you can get on the subway line 4 and reach Leqiao Station. Going out the station using exit 5, you will arrive at Plaza Hotel very easily.

The hotel has rooms facing the main intersection of the old town. It also has rooms facing south away from the intersection.  In summer the south-facing rooms are hotter. In winter the south-facing rooms are probably preferable for sun and quiet.

I have been a regular at this hotel for more than ten years. This time my room smelled dank. This is rather unusual but the smell goes away quickly after I turned on the air conditioning.

The famous Yi Yuan garden is just across the road from this hotel. Wang Shi Yuan is a short walk (25 mins) away.



Dank Room in Hotel at Centre of Old Town

I mainly chose this hotel for the location, at the intersection of 2 major roads through downtown: Renmin Rd and Ganjiang Rd. This is an excellent spot, within walking distance of many gardens (Master-of-the-Nets, Panmen Gate, Canglang Pavilion, Humble Administrator's Garden, Pingjiang Street, etc.) and many others in close proximity with a short taxi ride, plus it is less than 2km from the Railway Station. But the actual hotel was not quite worth the money compared to what you can get with other hotels. The rooms are fine and the shower/hot water is quite nice, but the amenities are very basic. Two small bottles of water per night, and no free coffee or tea in the room so bring your own! The walls are very thin and later in the evening I had trouble falling asleep because I could hear the neighbors' TV. The breakfast is included in the price, but of course it is very Chinese with fried rice and noodles, tofu with prickled vegetables, toast and butter, things of this nature. I was happy with the food, but I think many Western travelers wouldn't be overly excited to eat noodles and pumpkin porridge early in the morning. The major bonus was the early check-in - they let us check in at 11:30am - and check-out is at 2pm. They were happy to hold our luggage after we checked out, too. Overall it was fine, but the price was a little much for what was offered.

ok, but you can get the same quality for much less money

I am writing this review while in this hotel. Last night there was a constant loud noise of water gushing around the systems which kept me up all night. Now it's Sunday morning and I've been woken by loud hammering and drilling in the adjacent rooms. Most hotels would close off sections for loud works but not this one. Also as I took out the laptop plug from the wall, the entire electricity socket came out of the wall. The hotel is located centrally but outside a major road work project making road crossing hazardous. The breakfast was quite poor and included deep fried battered fish heads. I only found this out when I bit into it thinking it must be chicken or something else.  Also upon check in one of the female receptionists was very blunt to the point of being rude. 

On a plus the rooms were quite well appointed. Beds were large and comfy and there is free wifi. However all that is useless if you can't sleep there for the noise. In summary this hotel has no respect for it's paying guests. There are much nicer hotels around where they are actually pleased to have your custom. Just do not stay at this hotel. Also called the guangchang hotel.

with the workforce starting at 3am on the 3th floor and me on the 5th floor .
