I’m heading to Montreal this weekend and was looking up places to stay not surprisingly this place seems closed because of the pandemic. I was doing a little research to find out if they were still open and came across some of the negative reviews alleging racism at this place. Now that I think about it - I stayed here last year around November for the weekend and I too had random women who appeared to be staff follow me into the elevator and ask me about myself as if it was an interrogation and I do remember being followed from the reception desk up to my room by a woman who left when she saw I entered the room I found all of this really strange - I do also remember one of the front desk saying to me that I looked very professional and she asked whether I had been in Canada long . Fun fact I was born here... now at the time I found all these questions and interrogations really strange and didn’t want to jump to conclusions but after reading the other reviews I can safely assume this was overt racism...I travel really often and stay in hotels all over the world and never encountered such bizarre behaviour from even a five star

Now that i think about it....

Stayed 4 nights in the hotel part of this accommodation which served its purpose for our trip. Spacious and very comfortable room although a little warm and the temperature control didn't appear to change this. Well placed for the downtown and old city areas - good transport links also nearby. Thanks for a pleasant stay.

Great for our 1st trip to Montreal

Rooms very old and really small. The bed for to is maximum 120x200cm. The mattress is really old, uncomfortable and worn out. Unfortunately we found some black long hair in our "fresh" linen on the first day. Even the new linen were dirty. Mould in the shower. Dust underneath the furniture. 
No possibility to lock your suitcases before leaving. The storage room is always open and accessible. And there are public bars and rooms in the ground floor next to the storage room!!!

Low-budget hotel

The location was amazing.... we walked everywhere from our hotel.... all the restaurants, bars and shops were just around the corner .... the only thing we weren't very happy about was the sharing bathrooms.... but at the end it ended up being not so bad... everything was super clean and in 4 days there I never ran into no one for bathroom or shower.... we found people working there that spoke English, French and Spanish..... overall for location and price this is the best deal ever.

best location!!!!

After wonderful experience in Quebec City, I took the bus Orleans Express (Kelosi) from Quebec City to Montreal. It is a 3.5 hour comfortable ride with beautiful Fall scenery. I understand the rail line does not have much scenic views.

Not only the ride was comfortable and pleasant, but after 3.5 hour and traffic in Montreal, amazingly the bus arrived just on time. (1 minute early) I have seldom seen even rails to be that precise.

You can buy day passes for public transportation in Montreal for $10. With this day pass which is really a 24 hour pass, you can travel anywhere in Montreal including the wonderful subway, and even take the Bus 747 from Central Montreal and René-Lévesque Blvd to Airport. Imagine 24 hour use of public transportation including Airport ride for $10 Canadian or $7.50 US. Unfortunately they do not have 2 day passes, but do have 3 day pass which I think it is $28 or $30 Canadian Dollars.

I also stayed in a budget Hotel Y De Montreal and the hotel was clean and hospitable. Surrounded by Marriots, Hiltons, and Fairmont but at much more affordable prices.

The City was also charming, I enjoyed Crescent Drive, the Old town, China Town and the sea front areas. I also took a ride to Sherbrook Street the Persian and other ethnic neighborhoods.
Montreal is charming, but of course Quebec City was the tops.

TRANSPORTATION AND hotel to Montreal from Quebec City

Hotel is quite decent and in a fine location.  Staff was friendly and helpful.  You can walk everywhere with restaurants galore.  Only problem was when we got there, we discovered that the room had only one double bed.  Found out that online at booking.com, a "double" is not 2 double beds!  So we ended up squeezed into this tiny room for several days.  All in all, it worked out fine because the hotel has decent amenities, including a nice little cafe downstairs!  It was suggested that regardless of what website we choose in the future that a phone call to the hotel to confirm the reservation will preclude that from happening.  Certainly good advice!

Great location

Fabulous location at Crescent and Boulevard Rene Levesque. Near major transportation and all the eateries on Crescent. Located in the YWCA, there are two floors. Floor 6 has rooms with shower and bath down the hall. Includes kitchen, laundry, computer, TV lounge... All to make you feel at home. But floor 7 is the actual Hotel floor. These rooms with en-suite bath have all the things you would find in a luxury hotel. The furnishings are more basic but the mattress, pillows and sheets are excellent. The bathrooms have been renovated and have wonderful fixtures, lighting, glass showers--all you would find in a high-end Hotel.
These rooms are very comfortable. But even more than all this, is the welcoming atmosphere provided by the wonderful people at the front desk and then your individual room. This feels like home, a very affordable alternative in the heart of the City. I also felt wonderful knowing that the proceeds from my stay go to support the mission for all of the women and families that this nonprofit organization supports. I love this place! Give it a try, you'll love it too.

Urban Oasis

The pros.... The location (close to Bell Centre) is great. The room is nicely appointed with a fridge, hair dryer, coffee maker (I had a private room with private bathroom). The staff is very friendly. Really great rate: I paid 90 CDN $ plus taxes for a night, which is a pretty good rate for summertime in Montreal.
The cons.... Small shower,  the room was clean but could have been cleaner: found a couple of hairs in the sink, marks and stains on the room's walls. When I got into the room, the TV was unplugged from the back. It was plugged in to the wall but the cord wasn't plugged in the TV itself. I had to call maintenance, but someone fixed the problem quickly. Also bad channel reception.  But I was there one night only to attend a concert... I don't think I would stay there a whole week, but one night is Ok. I would come back.

Great locations

I came to stay here over the long weekend in Montreal and now I really wish I hadn't. As a Canadian this was the first time in the province I came with my brother who stayed on the floor with the shared bathroom, and another girlfriend of mine. There was a middle-aged woman at the reception who began talking about us as soon as we arrived in French, she seemed disappointed and from what I could gather with her conversation she was telling the other person at the reception while looking at us that "she has to fake smile." I was like whatever okay and checked in...tuuly she did give us a very "fake" welcome and gave us a very comical smile and as soon as my brother was checking in she began to make faces. I was a little shocked at her behavior but it doesn't compound to what happened the next day. We went out for the evening and came back and my brother called my phone shrieking! I went downstaris and found that his room was completely ransacked! Everything had been turned over...so quickly we rushed to the front desk to ask what was happening and their response was: "well we smelt marijuana coming from the room and wanted to make sure you were not selling drugs." WJHAT- SEriously WHAT- first off marijuana is legal in Canada and second that really gives them no right to go through our stuff especially when it's in our room. I instantly became furious and demanded that I was going to call the police - that's when they at the reception became very childish and said that it is well within their right to go through someone's room if they suspect illegal activity. Clearly there were no drugs, ecept for a little marijuana my brother bought from the SQDC which is perfectly legal. My brother then staid "I demand to know why you entered my room" and the woman started to act like a 12-year-old literally shaking and went to call the manager - the manager is very racist and came down and kept speaking to us in French despite the fact we were conversating in English. I am going through all legal channels to sue this very racist establishment. We ultimately decided to leave right there and then and we checked into the Holiday Inn right opposite. It was a horrible experience and the staff literally left me floored - they were so so so so rude to my brother and practically acted like children. Also the racism is very obvious here : they were very rude to my brother who is darker skinned I'm a bit light - but they were very rude and racist. The staff at the Holiday Inn on the other hand were very kind and considerate. Overall I would not recommend staying here due to the very obvious racism especially from management - we were clearly speaking English but she chose to speak to us in French without anyone at the reception even bothering to translate what she was saying. And she knew English - because we'd respond in English and she would reply in French - and from my limited French I could clearly tell she was making coherent responses to what we were saying. I have stayed at other Hotel Ys before which have been great just Hotel Y Montreal left a really bad taste in my mouth.

Plenty of Racism to Endure

I enjoyed the hotel Y yet it is a little too large and you rarely with other guests as you would at a smaller auberge.  It is clean; well-lit, secure and central for transit and eats and shopping and live music and groceries.  We will stay again.
