I planned our anniversary getaway to Tofino and booked Sea Star Beach Retreat.  Within minutes of arriving we were met by our very enthusiastic host, Santo.  He took us to the Garden Suite and showed us where everything was and how it worked.  The room was very clean but I did notice a musty smell when we first entered. It seemed better after opening the doors.  It’s a huge room with a small kitchen area.  We didn’t actually cook but I did notice a 2 burner hotplate under the counter and a nice large microwave we were supplied with decaf and regular coffee. The refrigerator is very small but big enough for  snacks and drinks. The 4 poster bed was very comfortable.  There was also a nice gas fireplace which we used several times when it got chilly out and it worked well.  There was a large tv but we never even turned it on.  I wish the lighting had been better as the room seemed especially dark.   It would also be nice to have a nightstand on both sides of the bed with a lamp. There was only one on one side.  I used a chair on my side so I had somewhere to put my book and tissues.  Also, the bed is very high and at 5 ‘ it was a bit of a climb for me.  We did not use the jacuzzi.   There is a washer and dryer which would be nice to use if you stayed longer than a couple of days.  We did enjoy the private patio but it could use a little sprucing up.  The location is great and we loved walking to the beautiful sandy the beach in just a couple of minutes.   It’s also not a long drive to town where we enjoyed picking from many very good restaurants.   Don’t miss the Tofitian Cafe for a great cup of coffee and amazing cinnamon rolls for breakfast.   I would have to say that even though it has some negatives the Sea Star is a good value for the money. Any of the hotels in the area that close to the water would probably be at least twice as much.  

A good value in a beautiful area!

The Sea Star Suites was purely magical for our holiday. Not only is Santo a genuinely friendly host, but he helped us when we had issues with our booking dates (a few last minute changes we had to deal with). He invited us to events that were happening locally, recommended items to get at restaurants and checked in a perfect amount for having privacy and being well cared for. The location itself is literally across the street from access to a surfing beach and is a great bike ride to town with a bike trail all the way. The whole island vibe is inspiring for anyone that needs to unwind, reset and rethink what is important in life. Thank you Sea Star, we are already planning our return!

Close to beach access. Basic but comfortable. Thats it.

Tofino is nice but I think if I returned to the area I would stay in Ucluelet where the hiking trails are located and also more restaurants and coffee houses.

The stay was very enjoyable with a great suite and Excellent service. Santos was very warm and welcoming making sure I had everything I needed. The location was excellent as well nestled into the West Coast Firs and Ceders but very close to the beach. Would stay again.

Perfect stay in Tofino.

Great reception. Exceptional amendities. Private. A little more info on some TV CABLE USE but overall 9. Out of 10.

On arrival place was completely dark with no signs or working lights. No obvious directions calling the manager got you a man who barely spoke English telling me i must go to the "lau" many times. We eventually figured out he was trying to say loft which is the name of one of the rooms. Room was very cold, like freezing cold, ice in sink and bathroom. All window were open, room was dirty and the blower on the heater was broken. Dirty carpets old pizza and chips under the couch dirty appliances were on the counters. 0/10 for first impression. Thought whatever Ill have a hot shower and deal with it, hot water didn't work, management has installed a governor on the hot water tap for the shower so it barely gets past lukewarm. REALLY NO HOT SHOWER??? None of the lighting seemed to function anywhere place was down right dangerous at night, west coast style wood decks outside in the dark, very slippery. Hot tub did work and was nice but no lighting around it all so basically unusable at night. Anyways you get the idea, if it was supposed to work it probably didn't. Tried to call the manager back to get some of these problems fixed to no answer.Sent and email the next day and a couple days later. I did not feel good about paying what we did for our two nights. No response to anything. Spend your money somewhere where the people care and aren't just obviously extracting cash. Pros awesome location, Semi secure area to leave boards, couldn't lock but better than outside.

Milked for every last dollar

The room that I booked was exactly what I hoped for. Great layout, very welcoming and private. The only problem we had was at check in as someone else had claimed our room before we even got there so we had to wait while they sorted it out and re cleaned it for us. The owner was great at resolving the issue right away, apologizing and even treated us to a bottle of wine for our inconvenience. Even the caretaker was great, he did an awesome job getting the room re ready for us, he really knows how to hustle! The hotel wasn't as close to the water as I'd hoped for but still in walking distance which was nice. The bbq area and garden was really nice but it was rainy so we didn't get the full use of it all. There is a hot tub outside as well but it wasn't working so we just enjoyed the in room jacuzzi. The trip for my fiance and I was to celebrate his 30th birthday and to have a mini pre wedding honeymoon, all and all mission accomplished. Thank you so much!

Decent place to stay for a short visit.

Check in was the only weird part. The person didn’t have a great command of English, didn’t ask for any ID, just pointed around the side of the house. I made out the words, “door’s open”. We found the door, and yes, from then on it was excellent, but arriving in the dark, and not knowing if we were in the right suite/place was awkward.
