Casa De La Luna

A beautiful place, with a great view! The hosts were very attentive and we felt very comfortable for one night. The furnishings are upscale and you can see that it has just been renovated. The bathroom was also very good and clean. The walk up from the harbor is a little longer, but there are great viewpoints and all the restaurants in the evening within a short walking distance.

Loved the view, beautiful newly renovated room. Internet was working. Hot water too. Breakfast was really good with eggs, juice, bread butter and jam. I would stay there again, and next time more than just one night. Altogether very good price quality ratio. The isla is in my opinion one of the most beautiful places on the planet. 

We loved our stay in Casa de la Luna. The room was bright and spacious, huge windows, real wooden floors, hot shower, radiator, warm blankets. The views from our room were spectacular. Our breakfast was tasty and filling. The staff were warm and welcoming. The only thing that I could suggest to improve it would maybe be some sunloungers to relax in the afternoon. Otherwise it was perfect! We stayed an extra night we enjoyed ourselves so much. 

We had a large room with one large and comfortable double bed and a single.  Everything was spotlessly clean and bearing in mind the hotel is on a small island with limited facilities this was a very comfortable place to stay.

Breakfast was adequate with a choice of cooked eggs,  bread, jam, fresh juice and hot drinks.  WiFi is limited in the room but worked better in the dining room.  

The hotel owner (sorry forgotten her name) spoke enough English to help with everything we needed and she very kindly organised laundry for us all done and dried in one morning which was a huge help for us.

A tip is to pre-arrange collection of your luggage from the bay -  she can arrange donkeys to take the heavier bags up the hill for $3 per bag.  It’s a long 20-30 minute hike up so well worth it 

A very welcoming place to spend a night on the magical island

I have been travelling to Isla del Sol for many years and I am not sure how anyone could give this place a bad review. The rooms are the best on the island and almost worthy of a 4 star rating anywhere, let alone Isla del Sol. It is no small feat building an establishment of this quality in such a remote location. The views are stunning, the location is excellent and the staff, in particular señora Domitila, is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Breakfast is among the best I have had in any hotel in this catagory in South America. If you are heading to Isla del Sol you can't book a better room.

My girlfriend and I were really excited to stay here but on the boat over from Copacobana we realised we’d had a brainsnap and completely forgot to take out cash. We knew there were no ATMs or EFTPOS facilities on the island so we were stressing at the thought of having to return on the next boat back. However, when we arrived at Casa de la Luna we were able to arrange for Anna, the lovely young lady, who worked there to make the full day round trip to the mainland the next day so we could pay. We were so grateful!

The room itself was absolutely amazing. The huge windows overlooking Lake Titicaca were truly magical and the bed was super comfy. Anna showed us how everything in the room worked and she was patient with our poor Spanish. Good showers are hard to come by on the Bolivian mainland so we weren’t expecting much but we were blown away.

The location was good too, very close to the junctions in the paths which can take you to various parts of the island.

These beautiful rooms sit just above the church. It took me a slow and steady 25 minutes to climb the 500m stepped pathway from the boat at this altitude of 4,000 metres, with an overnight bag on my front, and my hiking day pack on my back.

The rooms are very large and feel and look brand new. The decor is beautiful, simple and natural.

Depending on which room you have, you'll get slightly different views from the large windows.
I had a lovely view of the church and the lake.

The shower room is huge and has an electric shower. Unfortunately I didn't get to try it as the whole island had a power cut following a big storm. (So no WiFi either. If you don't already have one, get yourself a solar powered charger. I use mine in every day life, but it comes in very handy when travelling).

I slept very well, and found the mattress and the pillow very comfortable. The beds are piled high with blankets and a duvet.
With my earplugs in I was not kept awake by the storm that apparently lasted all night.

I was greeted with a handshake by the lady of the house when I arrived, and she showed me to my room. At breakfast the next day, I was served breakfast by a friendly young lady.

However there were no added touches. For example, to get a mug of hot water when I arrived or before I went bed. If I'd had my own flask I think it would've been possible when I arrived (definitely not at 9:15 pm) but I came to the island with only an overnight bag and left my flask in Copacabana.

Outside you can sit and relax on the 2 couches that are made from reeds and are designed in the style of reed boats - I'd love to ship one of those home!

Points where the hosts could improve:

1) Light a fire in the breakfast room - my feet were freezing and I sat in all 3 thermal layers I brought with me plus my jacket to eat breakfast.

2) Offer a drink on arrival - it's a tough walk up the hill at this altitude.

3) Have hot water available to drink at night. It's cold up here!

4) Offer guests a hot water bottle to take to bed. That should help reduce your heating costs.

And finally...

I STRONGLY recommend you leave your main luggage at your hotel in Copa. La Cupula kept mine for no charge, and said I could use all the facilities when I returned to collect it: the kitchen, gardens, WiFi, the shower. They would even provide a towel free of charge!


Despite some negative comments in other TA reviews I decided to book the Casa de la Luna hotel on Isla del Sol in Lake Titicaca. I was glad I did. People had complained that the room was cold but in our case there were many blankets and a heater in the room so we were quite warm.  Some people were critical of the included breakfast but with fresh fruit, fresh squeezed juice, hot drinks, tasty bread, and eggs to your liking we were very satisfied.  Maybe the hotel had read the reviews and made adjustments. 

Our room seemed new. It was large and had a modern bathroom.  But the best thing about this place were the views of the spectacular lake and mountain scenery.  Our room had many large and clean windows offering some of the most beautiful views imaginable. 

I did deduct a star, however, because as others had said the shower water was never warm enough to be comfortable.  That seems to be an issue for almost all the lodging on the island.
