Not LGBTQ+ safe. Experienced discrimination as a trans person. felt deeply unsafe. Caution to fellow community members and allies. 🏳️‍🌈 

I feel compelled to share my experience at this establishment as a warning to others, particularly the LGBTQ+ community. Unfortunately, this place does not appear to be a safe space, especially for transgender individuals like myself. During my visit, I encountered discrimination and transphobia that left me feeling deeply uncomfortable and unsafe.

It is crucial for allies and members of the LGBTQ+ community to be aware of the potential risks associated with this place. I believe that everyone deserves a welcoming and inclusive environment, and regrettably, this venue falls short in that regard.

Our safety and well-being should always come first, and it's essential to support places that share these values.

Superb place, and I'll tell you why...

For the price paid (£38 for 1 week) with breakfast, you receive access to a venue, and seemingly one of the most popular venues in Sucre where entrance is around 25bs on the weekend. There is always something happening every night, from music to beer pong etc. The breakfast contains large assortments of fruit platters, breads, juices, yoghurts and jams and cheese, as-well-as coffee and teas. So for around €6 per night, you receive a central location in a historic building with free venue access, a good breakfast and an array of chill spaces (the garden area is very nice too). I was also charged the exact exchange rate (infact 2bs less) which I always appreciate, as often some businesses overcharge on currency conversions. Everything was excellent, and the cleanliness is exceptional. Very well managed indeed, and should you not stay here during your time in Sucre, you should at least visit as you'd be missing out on a top spot otherwise. 110% value.

My son Connor was staying at the Hostel & fell very sick in June 2022. The staff treated him like family, getting a doctor + a nurse to attend him, then taking him to the local hospital, paid for his care upfront and looked at his belongings. Led by receptionist Carlos Jonathan. First Class treatment!

Unbelievable Staff Dedication

The owner and stuff members are very supportive and they even know your name after two days.

Best location in Sucre. The plaza is only 2 minutes by foot. From there you can find all bus connections to get to the sightseeing points outside the city. 

Hostel contains a cafe, bar and restaurant with amazing lunch specials. 

Fantastic lunch

Had a very nice stay here for 3 weeks!! We got stuck in the hostel due to the Corona virus but could not wish for a better place to get stuck. The owner and staff that were left were extremely friendly. Everyone did their best to make the best out of the situation. 3 really nice weeks in this hostel. Would recommend 100%

Very nice place!

The hostel is high quality, good breakfast and clean but VERY LOUD. The party lasts until after 12 and you can hear everything in the dorms. 
It is also lacking common areas because the café takes up all the space.

Very loud at night 

The good:

Our double room in the back was spacious with a table and couch. The music was not too loud in the room during the party nights.
The patio in the back reserved for guests is pleasant for hanging out during the warm parts of the day. At night it was dark and cold there.
The shower was hot and had good pressure.
They allowed early check-in because the room was free at the time. The receptionist was nice during check in.
The breakfast is included in the price and it’s  a big buffet.

The bad:

The private rooms in the back have some strange curtains which don’t cover part of the windows. Besides getting a bunch of light in the morning, these windows face a patio where some shared bathroom is located, so anyone can look inside. 

This takes me to the highlight of our unforgettable stay at Kultur Berlin:

In one of the nights when the hostel club was open, as I was returning from the street to our PRIVATE room before midnight, I found security peeking through our window. My girlfriend was in the room at the moment, with the lights on!

After some rude sloppy excuses about the need to make sure no one is drinking outside alcohol or taking drugs in the rooms, they actually came in and searched everything in the room (including our backpacks, pockets and wallets).

After finding nothing to confiscate, this guy tried to harass us about an empty beer bottle we had in the room, insinuating it was  smuggled from outside. (I wish it was, but we had actually bought it in the afternoon, for 28 bolivianos at the expensive bar downstairs)

This was a completely unacceptable violation of our privacy (and probably illegal). It never crossed my mind that we would ever find ourselves in such a ridiculous situation, especially in a hostel which is more expensive than the average in Sucre, and recommended by Lonely planet. We were treated like kids on a school trip.

We got no apologies, nothing. 

A quick search finds other reviews online regarding the obnoxious behavior of the security staff, and obviously nothing has changed since then.  One has to assume that the hostel’s management sees such kind of behavior as acceptable treatment of their guests.

We would never come back to this hellhole. I recommend you don’t either, unless you don’t mind sleeping in a place where security behaves like they are in some bad nightclub.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!

Nice hostel for young people (easy to make new friends). It is very well located near the main plaza and all the main spots. Cool bar to dance inside the hostel and super service from Madie (one of the receptionists) who helped me to get tickets for a football game in La Paz ! Thank you ! 🙂

The hostal is a really nice place,the people working there are super willing to help in anything you need. Also they have lots of cool activities to participate. Delicious meals and drinks. They have great parties on weekends, where locals an tourists can  meet and mingle. Excellent service
