As a chef, and having travelled Austria for ten years on business I can honestly say this is by FAR, the best food I have ever eaten in this lovely country. The staff are super nice. They are Hungarian actually, and the food is a wonderful mix of Austrian and Hungarian cuisine. The veal ragout soup and the stuffed chicken with polenta are 2 of the best things I’ve ever eaten and would compete with Michelin standard food and many a big name restaurant in London. Lienz is nestled in the Austrian South Tyrol and one would probably only be there to ski, but if you ever find yourself there don’t fail to eat here. Having written all of that the dessert (cottage cheese crepe) wasn’t great but I seriously can’t recommend the starters and mains enough. A must try !! 🙄👍🏼

The best 2 things I’ve eaten in Austria.

This is really like a motel, it has no grounds - only a car park. Even the trampoline is not accessible. The owners are distanced. They do not really care. It is not really suitable for a few days. It is extremely noisy from the road nearby
The rooms and food are good though.
It is also expensive for what it offers.

Noisy - like a motel, not a hotel

It is an OK hotel, with a big parking, so it is good if you are travelling by car.
Breakfast is good, they even provide gluten-free option. And we even had dinner in the hotel once, good service. Somehow it was a hot summer, and there were some flies around, and the waiters seemed desperate to chase them away. I don't know why that image stays with me ...

Convenient hotel

It was great to be close to the castle, the ski-lift and a supermarket just down the road.
The room was on the small side, but comfortable, clean but terribly strongly perfumed. Lighting is not great on the desk, or the terrace. The bed was comfortable, the duvet a bit too warm. Very quiet and welcoming. Staff were polite, often to be found in the restaurant (which has been refurbished compared to some photos on this page, with a modern twist - for example no tablecloth for breakfast, only paper place mats). Breakfast is good quality, but not top, a large selection of food is available, but there is only one cake and no croissants.
They do not have a playground for children, but had a nice cot and high chair.

Great location

The hotel is really close to Schlossbergbahn Hochstein. In order to get to the hotel from the railway station people must take bus n.1 and the name of bus stop is Hochstein Schlossberg. The bus n. 1 also connects the hotel to Zetterfeld ski area.
The price to get to the hotel from the railwaystation is about 5 euro.
The room was very confortable with a balcony with the view of the Alps. 
People at the reception were very kind and friendly. 
The restaurant offers local dishes ( average price 15-20 euros).

Gasthof Schlossberghof

Very friendly familiar hotel with kind owners. Andrea and Peter are really good hoteleliers. The rooms are clean and the breakfast is optimal. I suggest for everyone! You can park easy, the athmosphere of the bar is very tirolese.

We visited this guesthouse during our road trip to Austria. I might say that the minute we stepped into the room, we were glad four our choice! The room was spacious, modern, nicely decorated and clean, offering a nice balcony with an amazing view in the Alps - so refreshing. The room is 10 minutes walk from the center, but it was not a problem for us. We were able to park our car just outside for free. In the same neighborhood you can also find a mini market, gas station and you are in walking distance from “Osttirodler” the Alpine Coaster.
The owners were friendly and relaxed - nothing to do with a typical, stern reception employees. 
The only minus was that there was no refrigerator in our room and the breakfast was a bit basic.Overall we had a lovely time there!
